Try a reset though it is possible the adapter is having trouble. Disconnect the battery and the adapter. Then hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Now reconnect everything and try again.

Thanks JOcean,

I tried that again now, unfortunately it didn't lead to any changes in the laptop. The light on the computer that turns on while charging or on doesn't light up, which makes me concerned that its a motherboard or power supply issue.

I guess the physical plug of the adapter itself could have some issue that isn't easy to see visually (the green light on the adapter does turn on when plugged in) - eg the laptop could be out of charge and cant get charge because of an issue with the adapter.

Any other ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Look at the pin in the DC jack on the system. If the pin is bent or broken it can affect charging. I am leaning more toward adapter than MB. If at all possible trying another adapter (friend or relative) would go a long way at ruling that out as the source of the problem. Were you having any trouble before this such as the date and time were wrong? A dead CMOS battery can cause a no boot as well.

Same issue, call service!!!  While I was on hold they had me plug adapter back in to the laptop.  A massive spark happened and fried the cable, wires are fully visible and split.  Fire hazard, clearly some kind of manufacturer error.  Do not leave this plugged in unattended!

I find that I am having the same problem of my dell Inspiron 2in1 but coming in this morning. I bought this brand new just last month.

Initially when I tried thr back lights came on and went off, but not the laptop itself. I connected laptop to power source, and not nothing comes on. Small green power light on laptop is on though, but nothing else.

Please help!

Taking off the case is like working on a cell phone. To my surprise, this solution worked! I used a YouTube video tutorial to make sure I was disconnecting the battery connector...

DELL-Cares agent troubleshooting =

Is the BIOS updated to the latest version? Also, will you be able to remove the back cover, unplug the battery cable and RTC battery cable. Wait for about 10 seconds, then plug in the battery cable, RTC battery cable, AC, and turn on the machine. After that, the machine will turn on three times because the RTC has been reset by this operation.
