I have 512mg of dual channel ram! how can i find out if it is 2700, or 3200?also what power supply does the 8300 have?
Hi,
From looking at the 8300 customize page it seems that PC3200 only comes with the 3GHz CPU. But you can tell for sure by running the free version of Sandra that can be found here. If you use the Crucial RAM picker, you will see the the correct PC3200 memory for the 8300 model is $90, with 256MB chips running $51.

It's most likely 2700 as that's what others have posted on their early delivery machines. You can boot into the BIOS and read the memory speed there, or open your machine and see what the sticks say.
Can't help on the power supply question.
Should you decide to get more memory, Crucial sells both the 2700 and 3200 modules. To configure memory for your computer, click herefor Crucial's memory configurator.Crucial is a division of Micron, one of the largest manufacturers of memory and a supplier of Dell's. Memory selected via their configurator is guaranteed to fit, and all memory has a lifetime warranty - plus they provide priority shipping at no additional cost for most orders. There is NO impact to your Dell warranty by adding Crucial memory (or other hardware or software for that matter).
As your system starts to boot press F12 and select option '8 Boot to Utility partition' and then 'Custom Test' and select 'system memory'. When the test finishes click 'configration', this will give you detail of memory speed and type. Note that if you have Hynix HYMD232646A8J-D43 256MB DDR 400MHz Cl3 pc 3200U sticks then even if the bios shows memory speed of 400MHz Dell diagnostic program will give the true speed of only 333MHz. for pc 2700 the bios will show memory speed of 333MHz.

Hi,
My 8300 (800Mhz FSB) came with 1GB of PC3200 memory. The technical data sheet for the 8300 indicates it has a 250W power supply.
