So something connected to a USB3 port is waking the PC. Disconnect all USB devices, one at a time until you figure out which one is the culprit, possibly/probably the mouse.

My (wireless) USB mouse has an on/off switch on the bottom. So I turn the mouse off before I want PC to sleep. Helps save the batteries and this way, if I bump the mouse or shake my desk, the PC doesn't wake up...

If your mouse doesn't have a switch, you can open the Mice/Pointing Devices entry in Device Manager. Double-click the HID mouse entry, and click its Power Management tab. Uncheck the box "Allow this device to wake the PC". That will stop accidental wake-ups, but now you'll have to press a key on keyboard to wake PC.

@RoHe Thanks again for your help.  For whatever reason it is the keyboard that is preventing the system from going into a sleep state.  I was able to test with another keyboard I have, and it worked fine.  As soon as I connect the Dell supplied keyboard (regardless of which USB input it is plugged into) it refuses to sleep.

Thank you.

@LennyLive   If the PC is still under warranty, maybe Dell will replace the keyboard for you.

Or, you could just uncheck that box in Device Manager allowing keyboard to wake PC, and leave that box for the mouse checked so you can wake it that way...

Could be a pending Scheduled event, or a Windows-Update that wants to install once it is idle . Doesn't hurt to run Windows-Update (and reboot as requested) until it is completely "Up to Date".

After you check all that ... as a last resort ... there is a special command you can run.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/device-experiences/powercfg-command-line-options

At an elevated Command prompt, I think it is: powercfg /requests

See what it says.

IIRC, it is sometimes a confused USO (Update Session Orchestrator).

@LennyLive

  1. Open a CMD prompt window, run as administrator
  2. Type in: powercfg -lastwake and press Enter
  3. What does it report there?

@Tesla1856 @RoHe Thank you for the replies.  System is running on Win10 and is current on all updates.

Running the command "powercfg /requests" retutns-

DISPLAY:

Once again, I appreciate your help figuring this out!

During my own troubleshooting I had thought it might be the mouse, so I had disabled it from waking in the power management tab but had the same results.  That only leaves the keyboard as those are the only two items, I have connected via usb.  I'll do some testing with the keyboard and mouse and report back.

1. Doesn't that mean the "lastwake" was due to something on that port (like mouse or keyboard) ? In that case, isn't that expected and normal?

2. Looks fine, right?

3. I was just trying to get you started (in what I thought) might be the right direction.

For me, when my Aurora-R6 was doing this, it was the USO thingy. I was able to correct it with this command and some switch (and then doing some previously hidden, but now pending Windows-Updates that popped-up).

Anyway, now my Aurora-R6 sleeps fine. It also awakens at 3am to do it's Daily Macrium-Reflect backup (and then goes back asleep). Every once-in-a-while (rarely), I notice it's not Sleeping and there is always an Update that needs to run.

I suggest you move your mouse and keyboard to the USB-2.0 ports (if you have some).

Also, be sure "Intel Ready Mode" is off in BIOS, and uninstall the "Intel Ready Mode" Windows-App if you have it installed.

Have a look at programs and processes that are running in the background (maybe even in Task-Tray). The computer will not fall-asleep if it thinks it was work to do.

Glad they replaced the keyboard for you and that solved things. It is an odd fix, but something for others to keep in mind if a PC won't sleep...

I agree and I am still baffled, as the original keyboard functioned perfectly fine in all other respects.  Glad to have it figured out though.
