Hardware diagnostics: F12 at powerup. Record any errors that arise by number (2000-0151, etc.) and report those along with the system model (i.e., Inspiron N5110, 7559, etc.).
Heating issues: any system that's been in use for two years likely needs a thorough internal cleaning and replacement of the thermal pads that sit between the CPU/GPU and the respective heatsinks.
You can either to that yourself, or have a local computer shop do the work.
