Thanks Paladin i try the Inspiron - Network forum... I thought i was in the good forum ;| ;( But : I have no network adapter inside my I8000. Do you know where i can find a network adapter and how does it look ? Do you have a sample ?
It is possible your laptop does not have a network adapter in it even though the TJ-45 jack is present. I8000's could be configured with a modem, a network adapter, or a combination of both. But the external RJ-45 and RJ-11 jacks came on all models. Device Manager will tell you if there is a network adapter present.
You may get more informed responses to your questions if you post in the Inspiron - Network forum. This is the Dimension - Network forum for desktop computers.
To Access the Device Manager Go to My Computer>Right Click and Go To Properties>Hardware>Device Manager
Scroll Down to Network Adapters and Right Click for Properties. f you see a Yellow Exclamation Point next to the Adapter, more than likely the wrong driver had been loaded.
Try removing the NIC (providing it is not a built-in NIC) and re-seating it. It if is a built-in, go to the Device Manager and see if it has been disabled.
The I8000 supports CardBus PC cards, so a network adapter such as the Linksys PCM200 would work. However, other manufacturers such as Netgear, D-Link, Belkin, etc. make similar devices, so any brand name would be fine.
This is a good forum also, :) - but it specializes in Dimension desktop computers. The folks over in the Inspiron forum understand laptops much better and should be able to answer your infrared question.
