Thanks for the links

GT1030 is current and can be moved to newer faster unit without issue.

Rather than put money into a 755 look for a 9020 Tower.

This will allow you to upgrade Ram to 32 Gigs and have Core I7 4TH gen.

The cost of windows 10 pro licence is $200.

Max CPU in my 755 MT is a C2Q Q9650.  It was suggested to me by Rockstar(s).  It's not stated what CPU you already have.

I think Speedstep was one to point out yes to the Q9650, but no to the QX9650.  Apparently the QX must pop up in searches.

When I maxed the RAM to 8GB and put Win10 on an SSD, that gave me the most notable difference in performance.  Before, even my USB's lagged.  I added USB 3.0, but I wasn't getting the expected performance before the two aforementioned upgrades.  Now, boot time is 17 sec., programs launch instantly, it runs recording studio software seemlessly, and so on.  The Q9650 I bought for $41 off of eBay and it came in brand new condition.

Before those other upgrades, I added a GPU card (512MB), and noticed no changes even though that helps free up some RAM.  I can't say it would be the same for the GT 1030 though.

So if you want to do upgrades on your 755, there you go.  SSD's really do breathe new life into older machines.

Speedstep also had the recommendation of a newer PC, like a 9020 for example.  The 755 is limited to SATAII (3gb/s) while the 9020 has SATAIII (6gb/s).

While the 755 can run fast...  I bought a seller refurbished 790 DT off of eBay to run the Win7 32-bit HDD the 755 used to have.  I have software that doesn't work with 64-bit, yet has features I was missing.  Anyway, the 790 has SATAIII, an I3-2100 CPU, and runs absolutely slick even though boot time is almost a minute.  It also has 4GB RAM, and Win 32-bit is limited to 4GB anyway.  The 790 is from 2011.  It doesn't have USB 3.0.

What size is your Optiplex - MT, DT, SFF, or USFF?  That can make a difference in recommendations.

Do not buy a 1030. They are garbage. Get you a 1050ti or a 1650.

Hi @H TECH,

Did you review the threads I linked above in a post above the image of Optiplex's?

Also, going from C2Q to C2Q won't make a noticeable difference.  That doesn't mean you can't max it out if you like.

@H TECH

Windows 11 works on a 755 but its not supported.

Get a USB 2.0 32 gig flash drive

SanDisk-32GB-Cruzer-Flash-Drive B07MPCJDXS

Download windows 11 ISO

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11

Download rufus

Make Extended Installer on the sandisk FIT drive

Install 10 latest version

Then run setup from the usb flash OFFLINE aka any wifi or network cables disconnected and it will upgrade your system.

There are no 10 or 11 drivers but the Vista Drivers for 755 work fine with WIN 7 8 10 11.  not supported does not mean not working
