Try updating the video drivers (yes, I know this may sound odd). The error messages that the OS produces on failing to go into standby or hibernate can sometimes be a little misleading (i.e. blaming the wrong device).
We had experience the same issue with a IBM thinkpad but we were able to have the fix to it. Below is the link and it affects systems that are running Quicken. I hope this is helpful and please let me know if this worked for you.
