Service Pack 2 and changing Ram? Please help!!

Question

I have an Inspiron 5100 with 512 Megabytes of Ram, 256 in each Dimm. When I first downloaded service pack 2 there was a noticeable slowdown, but in addition, the first time I restarted a message came up saying 'the amount of system memory has changed.' I looked at the system info and it stated I only had 256 mb of Ram(i looked at sysinfo in fangui and it said Dimm 1 had 0 mb.) I uninstalled Service pack 2 and the Ram was reported correctly again. Now, however, once in a while when I start up or especially when I restart this occurrs again. Anyone know why it's doing this or a possible solution?

Reseat the memory modules and run the Dell diagnostics - you have a DIMM that either isn't making good contact, or is failing.

Remove and replace the modules.
