Still pictures but no video on TV

Question

Inspiron 4100 xp home I am connecting to a television and seeing the notebook screen. I can view still pictures but when I open eg Real or Windows Media nothing goes through to the television. The clip opens fine on the notebook screen and I can see the skin of the program on the TV but the WMA/Real screen is black and there is no sound. I am connecting with the s-video out. There is a 7-pin plug which goes into the computer and at the other end there are three connections. I am plugging into this a cable which connects to the TV. The TV connects with yellow, white and red. I have checked those. The cable from the television connects to the adapter via a yellow 4-pin. My apologies for not knowing the correct terms for these cables and connections. Could anyone help, please? Thanks.

Video will only show on the display that is set as the 'primary' display. Since you didn't list your video card, I can't confirm exactly how to make this change, but it should be somewhere in Display Properties - Settings tab - Advanced button - Displays tab. On my ATI card, it's a small teal button below the picture of the TV and the LCD that you can toggle back and forth.
