If someone with a 4150 or C640 can download radedit and click Current and save the bios, perhaps I can get something to work. I downloaded the 8100 7500 bios but am reluctant to try because it is for the 7500 and not 7500c.
I'm still thinking there is a way to get this to work.
Well the video card was really stressing me out, so I have reassembled the laptop, but it did give me a chance to do some internal spring cleaning. I found a big gob of pet hair stuck in the fins of the heatsink. I removed it and blew out the other dust and hair. I removed and reseated the heatsink and am noticing already much cooler temps reported by fangui. Right now I'm at 93 and 93. Normally by now I'd be in the low hundreds.
I have been looking to upgrade the video card in my Inspiron 4100 also. I was right where you were with the 7500 Mobility card, but looks like you saved me some time. Have you ever found anything that will work as an upgrade??

hmm...
you need to add M7 support in system BIOS... exactly how can this be done tho? you'd need the source for the C610 and the C640 BIOS.
Do you have any way of reading dumped BIOS?

From FanGUI:
BIOS vendor: Dell Computer Corporation
BIOS version: A14
BIOS date: 01/24/2003
System manufacturer: Dell Computer Corporation
Product name: Latitude C610
Service tag: **********
Asset tag: --
CPU manufacturer: Intel
Current CPU speed: 1000 MHz
External clock: 133 MHz
Max. CPU speed supported by board: 1333 MHz
L1 cache size: 32 KB (internal)
L2 cache size: 512 KB (internal)
Video card: ATI Mobility M6
Sound card: Crystal 4205
Ethernet card: 3Com 3C920 Ethernet Controller
SODIMM Socket 'DIMM_A': 256 MB
SODIMM Socket 'DIMM_B': 256 MB
It does appear to be a video bios problem... That should say M7.

If there is a utility to dump the video bios, then perhaps it could be done.
Anyone know the memory and chip clock for the mobility 7500?
I found a desktop 7500 bios that I opened in Radedit. I could lower the clock rate and load it from dos using vgabios and see if the screen comes on.

Running XP, right?
I had a thought... use a TSR and try Radeon 7500 BIOS from the 8100... if you have a bin file...
check yer PM box...

I'm still open to suggestions.

I have acquired the 7500c video bios which, like I suspected, is different than the 8100 Mobility 7500 bios.
I'll mess around with it and hopefully something may work.
