For the 5150 unless you know how to re-program the A36 BIOS(or any 5150 BIOS for that matter), to allow the AGP apeture to adjust, it isn't going to happen.
Because of a 32MB video card:
You should have all the XP eye-candy off(in system properties> advanced>performace>settings>Visual effects; * Adjust for best performance*)
your bit depth to 16bit in Display and in GAMES !
Have you tried creating a second partition, sized at 3072 MB(hopefully you remove the Diagnostics partition)
then in performance>advanced>Virtual Memory
put your pagefile set at Min 1280- Max 3072 on it? (pagefile should be set for 256MB over MAX RAM, to 3 X RAM,)
This will allow windows to use all the DDR RAM it needs while gaming(alot of todays games running DX 9.0c,can easily use 1024MB of RAM) then going to the page-file, for everything else..(it's how everyone back in Win98SE days got their system to run so well, windows works better, with a Swap/Page-file depending on which OS(Fat 32 swap/NTFS page) especially for gaming
If you don't want to make another partition, you should at least have those settings in performance>advanced>Virtual Memory
You should consider purchasing the 64MB 5200goFX if you are going to be using the DX 9.0c games! you could even upgrade more RAM...

First off what kind of mod did you do to get a Pentium 4 3.4Ghz desktop CPU to run at 33-38C. That must have taken alot because my mobile 3.06Ghz when running with speedstep off doesnt even stay that cool.
Also, how exactly did you get a Go5700 working? You must have made your own BIOS because the 5150 bios versions dont support the Go5700. Also what vendor has a Go5700 that fits the 5150 available???
Sounds to me like your just kidding around with those specs...
Umm, my 5150 idles at 30 and I've never seen it over 60 after hours of gaming. As per the vid card, I also want to know.
Oh, and with your issues of gaming, mine used to do that, run fine for a sec, then slow. Try making your CPU run at full speed, ie: set the power scheme to "Always on". that reduce the slow downs, at least it did for me. The page file it also a good idea.
Mine idles at 30C when in 1.6GHz idle mode but if i leave it on 3.06GHz mode it sits around 42C.
He has a desktop P4 3.4GHz supposedly. For one that wouldnt work in the 5150 because it is an 800MHz FSB CPU and the 5150 only uses 533Mhz or 400MHz FSB. This means it would run at 2.26GHz rather than 3.4GHz.
Secondly even if he got it to run at 3.4GHz it wouldnt clock down since its not a mobile cpu, and it also generates more heat than the 3.06GHz so it should idle in the 40's or 50's.
I totally rewrote the BIOS for the 5150...I was able to get the 3.4Ghz running at 3.2 Ghz 533FSB,
why I couldn't get it to run faster than 3.2Ghz at 533, because that is all the speed the board is rated for 3.2Ghz...Since my modded case is now almost 3" thick, I'll tell you the rest...As for the idle/load temps....Artic-Silver 5, EVER hear of it???
Oh, the System fan which was originally in it.. was having heat issues before, I modded, the reason, they sent me the newer System fan...below I tell about it.
I got a New System fan, which is more efficient, than the original one, they did look slightly different, from each other, more copper, faster fan, but what I did was..modded a Thermaltake 1U Rack Mount Cooler, for a socket 370, then modded it, so that it bolted right onto the Stock plate of the system fan...
talk about double-vision cooling, I ran the Dual-heat pipes, which I tack-welded onto the thin heat-sink(used two sets of Spire SP450B0-CoolGate Cooler's Heat Pipes...) right along the outside ridge of the case's bottom...Don't worry though, I cased in the heat-pipes inside a clear plastic case, molded some galvenized steel, to keep the case from melting, just in case they get hot...not very hot so far though... then fitted the open end, with a GPU fan from an older compaq 2100us notebook...(blowing outward of course)
Even after all this was in, it was all still so low profile, that I could have made my case bottom, smaller than the 2.8" I decided on...I used 2 ultra thin panasonic case fans, one for my 60GB 7200RPM HDD & the 2x 1GB of kingston so-dimm DDR333 at 346Mhz(yep upgraded to 2GB since)...This is the reason they never get hot...
hmmmmm guess this guy does mod after all,
DUH
This was one of ***** form factor 5700FX BTW, it fit's just fine...and works flawlessly, as the 5150's extra 40 Watts sure came in handy for my mods...(If you search all the 5700FXgo models from the top 6 manu's, you'll find the one I used, "it's an Ace in the hole"
I was able to get my BIOS to work as I wish, stepping up the FSB clock one Mhz at a time....btw, here's a hint, just because the system bus of a board is 533Mhz's, doesn't mean you cannot overclock it as well...
I guess having a degree minoring in programming sure comes in handy...
so looks like
I WIN
BTW, I'm already modding my Alienware Area 51- M
LOL
MER
(do your own homework..I can't give away all my trade secrets, I get paid to mod these notebooks all day DO you???)
Edited for some spelling errors...I did hint on the VPU
Your saying you got the FSB of the 5150 to run at 188MHz. I highly doubt that chipset can actually run at that speed when its only rated for 133MHz.
Secondly why go through all that trouble, just get a faster laptop...
Third, do u have a link to where you got one of these FX5700 Go chip that fit the 5150, because seeing is believing.
Next how did you power the presario 2100US fan? There are no power connectors on the 5150 motherboard for a fan to fit in the rear vent. I checked a while ago when i was considering putting a fan in there.
Yes ive heard of AS5, i have a tube of it sitting on my desk right now.
I can believe you did some serious modding but im still curious about those questions up there ^ Also can you post some pictures, id love to see this 5150. Sounds really cool.
I have MODDED every type of notebook that is out, it isn't trouble, but fun, & part of my business, which I do well with...(now in 3 states) We build Tower Servers, Rackmounts, Webservers, EXTREME GAMERS !!! or just your average desktop...plus modding any type of notebook or desktop..man I have even modded the cases of Terabite Tower Servers ;)
As far as this 5150 goes
The FSB runs at 533(133x4) Where do you see 188 ???, well it's at 546 now...
I Oced the so-dimm 333 to 346...13mhz not even hurting it, with the fan on them..this doesn't effect the temp enough for me to care.. As far as how the fans were attached, I spliced them all to where the system fan plugs into the board, who says there needs to be a plug elsewhere on the mobo? I didn't even need to increase the fan voltage
I own a faster Notebook, I sold the original Alienware 51-M(I replaced the P4 HT 3.2Ghz Extreme Edition 2.5MB L2 CPU, with a stock 3.4Ghz 1MB L2) it had a 9700go in it...
I put that extreme edition CPU, in a PCI x 16 desktop I built...
Anyway,
I now own the Alienware 51M-7700
17" WideSXGA+ 1680 x 1050 LCD Display with Built-in Camera - Xeno Grey
That's the muscle of that notebook...I buy one alienware a year as well..(I get to write all of the Notebooks I use for work, as business expenses..I do own a System Building Gaming IT business)
I need to update my profile...but it seems that the moderatos, cut it off, right after the Dell's...hmmm
I like to mod, do not consider it trouble, but fun...
I do not have a link to the 5700go I used
(it came out of an ACER notebook I believe, different form factor, than the Dell 5700go, but I could have made one of them work, had I had one lying around... I found it in the tens of thousands of parts I have cataloged, in my warehouse)
OK ?!?
I'm sure it is on the web though..
listen...
when you MOD-ify something, this means, you
change,
make room,
do whatever,
it takes to make your vision come to life..can you understand this at all???
Yes I will take some pics..
I already have it sold, but,
I will take some pics before I deliver it
it is really cool..
however..
the person who is buying it, wants me to paint it NEON Pink for Her
kinda spoiled my vision for it, BUT the customer is always right!

PS...
Maybe I'll just stick to the Overclocking, & Modding forums, where they understand, all this, & actually make suggestions, instead of QUESTIONING EVERYTHING
and MY forum over at MSN
groups.msn.com/4pcexperts
BTW.. you can go there to see some pics, of a Watercooled beast I built!!!
BTW...I wanted my P4 3.06 to run at that all the time...
I expected the P4 3.4 to run at 3.2 all the time,
battery or AC(so it only gets 3 hours per battery now), I have 2 more for evey notebook, I use anyway...(never know when the power will go out in a really, hot FRAG tourny on UT2004) !!!
those who had a 5150 before the A36 BIOS, were only running ay 1.6Ghz all the time anyway, unless they had the speedstepXP program installed...
You said you used a 3.4GHz Pentium 4. That means it is an 800MHz (200x4) bus cpu with a 17x multiplier. Using a motherboard without an 800MHz (200x4) bus you would need to overclock the 533MHz (133x40. Since you only have a max multiplier of 17x you would need to run your fsb at 752MHz (188x4) to get 3.2GHz. THATS WHERE THE 188MHz COMES FROM!
Dont try to tell me you inlocked the multiplier lock becuase you couldnt do it. That lock is built into the core of the cpu.
I know lots about overclocking. Your not the only person who knows how it works or how to do it. Im just pointing out that none of your number add up in this 5150 overclock you did.
The 546MHz (136.5x4) bus you say you ran it at would result in that 3.4GHz Pentium 4 running at 2.3GHz.
PS: The Pentium 4 Extreme Edition CPU removed from the Alienware 51-M is not a 2.5MB L2 cache CPU. The P4 EE series uses L3 cache. It has a 512Kb L2 cache and a 2048Kb L3 cache. There is no 2.5MB L2 cache version of the Pentium 4 or Pentium 4 EE.
SO you then know, that it only takes a BIOS, to dummy down the FSB from 800(200X4)
Didn't have to unlock the 17x, just had to fool the CPU via the BIOS to belive that it was(these things aren't hard when you've been programming BIOS's since 1982)...
who programs the BIOS & software, to work with it., as wishes... I've had so many locked CPU's
that it only takes a few hundred lines of code, to instruct the CPU to work in any way I choose...
Look, when you have had 6 years of college, spent 20 years in a Jet Propuilsions lab
Received 3 Microsoft certifications,
then you can go ahead and tell me what the limitations of anything are...I don't see inside the box...
I'm now finished aruging a mute ponit, with someone, who obviously, thinks he KNOWS IT ALL..
DO YOU DO THIS FOR AS LIVING ???
As far as the P4 3.4 extreme..
Obviously, it works as you stated,
BUT we all know that, it has a "effective" 2.5MB cache. L2 & L3....ANYWAY it is obviously blowing away any other PC with a P4 3.4 CPU with any other Cache, having all the same hardware, other that the CPU...
I guess I should choose my words more carefully, for those so nit picky...
BUT If I was tryiing to talk down to the rest of the forum readers, like you seem to like to, I guess, I might have worded it, above the average readers head, as you did...
I won't be back, & that girl that is buying my 5150 EXtreme mod, wants no pictures of it, posted anywhere...it is an original & she spent the $2400.00, so I guess your beat...
What is really sad is that you had to use an adhominym argument. Rather than simply answering my questions you had to try and downplay me. Make me look stupid so you would be right. Next time someone questions you you should try to answer the question rather than trying to make yourself look smarter than someone else.
I didnt question your intelligence, i simply wanted to know how you went about doing what you claimed to have done. You didnt fully answer my questions so i asked again and you tried to make me look dumb and followed it up with egotistical remark "so i guess your beat". Im glad you wont be replying because the people on this forum dont need an arogant person that thinks he knows everything trying to make others look dumb.
I doubt if you can change the aperture. As far as playing the "latest graphics intensive games" goes; the FX5200 is just about the worst card around for playing dx9 games.:smileysad:
I wasn't trying to downplay you, or make you look dumb, your doing that all by yourself...
I think you meant adhamant
I just was answering the questions, posed to me, without disclosing secrets
I use to make CUSTOM MODDED LAPTOPS..I can make any programable BIOS, create the scenario I need, to make the laptop perform, with the fastest CPU I can put on the stock board...

your argument, of statistics, & what a MANU states is, quantifies nothing...
rules were meant to be broken, thats how technology keeps improving...
Why not ask me these questions in a PM anyway.,
this is totally off
TOPIC...
I wasn't making you seem stupid, you are proving it on your own!
trying to tell me, the absolute...
we programmers, use math within complex programming languages, (my favorite is VB.net) to solve issues, that most people would think unsolveable.
I hide behind nothing.
we don't goto the manufacturers website & spout out statisics, as you appear to be doing, but rather, look at the problem at hand and solve it.
so unless, you want to continue an argument, you started, trying to get into something, you only know parts of and not the total sum...
how about helping the gentleman with the AGP apeture question...
drop it...I know what I have , know what I do...
P4 3.4 800 FSB CPU's can run
underclocked at 3.2Ghz with a 533 FSB...end of story
Next I guess you'll tell me that DDR2 533Mhz memory can't run at 333Mhz right???
