I couldn't find the specs for the 1704 on the dell site.
Could you post a link to where you found the 1704 spces?
I found what I was looking for. It would seem that the 1704 has a faster response time and a wider viewing angle, that is if 130/140 (v/h)for the 1704 vs 85/85 (v/h) is a wider viewing angle.
The 1703 has a higher contrast ratio (600 to 1) vs (500 to 1) for the 1704. The 1704 has a great Luminance Output, 300 vs 250 for the 1703.
All in all the monitors seem quite similar, with the possible exception of the faster respnse time for the 1704.
There, both the 1703 and the 1704 are listed. It is curious that Dell doesn't give you a side-by-side comparison, and what the signficance of the differences is between these two monitors.
You are right, dell lacks information. Even the warranty is not posted when you buy the monitor as a stand alone. Only states between 1 year and 4 years. That does not help and Dell has got to get its act together and give us better information so we don't have to come onto this forum or talk to tech support. Even they mess up most of the time...

most likely
but there are only a few short reviews of the 1704FP monitor.
reviews don't discuss the screen door effect, or IQ
the 1704FP has a angle of view that is smaller than the 1703FP
but strictly for gaming, you are better off with the 1704

Thanks.
I did find the specs in another place where Dell has the User Guides for all its products.
