2001FP-Overlay Mode Out Secondary VGA Port on Laptop

Question

I am considering this monitor, but not as my primary display. I have a Inspiron 8600 laptop and plan to have the 2001FP off the secondary VGA port in the back. The 1600x1200 resolution should not be a problem, as that resolution does show up in Windows XP's secondary display resolutions. This is with the Geforce FX5200 Go.   Among other things, I want to be able to play DVDs and other movies on my Laptop using Overlay mode to output them full screen to the 2001fp. Will this work? I had purchased a W1700 LCD TV/Monitor but it was limited in resolutions....800x600 to 1280x768, and could not do overlay of DVDs or other movies. The Specs on the 2001fp do show 640x480 & 720x480 giving me more hope that this may work. Can you please confirm.   It's other main use will be with a DirecTiVo connected via S-Video to be used either full screen or in VGA mode with PiP. Thanks for any advise,

Yes this will work but you will need to have the 2001FP set as the primary display device or the movie will not show on that monitor. It is a software restriction.

Well, the good news is that as it turns out, overlay does work and the 2001fp does Not have to be the primary display. This is hooked up to my 8600 Inspiron laptop out the VGA port as the secondary.
