So, does the microphone plug work as audio-in with the hauppage USB video-in devices? I'm slightly unsure about whether it'd work, since I haven't had the best luck hooking up even non-internal mics thus far.

True, though the PVR also costs considerably more than the Live products. A sales rep told me at least USB Live put sound into the soundcard's audio line in. Begging the question, would it work at all on an Inspiron's OBS?

the, the hauppauge PVR USB-2 which I have has the following inputs:
 
right audio in
left audio in
composite video in
S-video in
ANT in
FM ANT in
 
any inputs are sent via USB-2 to the computer
 
the unit supports hardware mpeg2 encoding

On board sound. I guess it's more of desktop term, since laptops tend to be rather limited in their card space.

dunno, again, i've only ever used the PVR, which seems to do pretty a lot in box (CPU load is around 30% while watching tv or recording)
