You might have to replace the keyboard - perhaps Dell parts has it...

turn the computer off and remove teh keyboard -- see if you see any damage, either on the keyboard or on the mainboard under it

I would do whats suggested above, but i would also replace the kb while its out.

Thanks for the suggestions. How do I remove the keyboard from the Inspirion? Is it difficult?
