thanks emtehfd... that part should be really simple.. my questions on the previous page all concern the bios updates and drivers and software, not really the hardware aspect of everything... mainly compatiblity and the chronoligacal order im supposed to do everything so i dont screw my laptop up.
Man... a 128 bit card on my laptop. This thing would scream. I better start saving my money. And to think, I was going to buy some goodies to put on my car.... :) Is that discount for your processor open to anybody or is it just exclusive?
Is this new 128 mb card from ATI just the M9 or is it that 9800 or whatever newfangled one thats in the 8600? Also I have a question about the memory. When you flashed the 5100 to a 5150, did you change the memory to 333mhz or is your 266 rated memory from Dell running at 333?
The discount was because I am firefighter plus I had a gift certificate. I'm not sure the model of the ati card was just given a heads up and my meory is running at 333 I flashed with 5150 bios.
Something strange but not serious since I did all this though, I cant open winows from internet explorer. I have to stop and refresh them to get them to load. Ive tried a lot of things and looked a lot of places, no luck and no straight answers. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated........ its becoming quite the nuisance.
anyone wanna help me out with my questions a few pages back? not to sound impatient or cranky or anything though... like i said, i really appreciate what you guys did for the dell community here!
cool, thanks.. ill install them... waht process do i go through though? do i install the card first and then the new bios and then the drivers or what?
if everything doesnt work the way i want it to, can i just put the 7500 card back in and still have the a28 bios support it without having to downgrade back to my a23 or sometihng?
just making sure of everyting before i go do something that i could seriously regret.
If for any reason u dont seem to like the M9000, u could still swap it with the M7500 and the Inspiron 5100 would run happily with it. There wouldnt be any need for you to downgrade (if possible) your bios for any reason. Though u might need to work around with the drivers....which I seriously doubt.

Wait, wait, I think I may be confused.
I downloaded and installed the A26 BIOS. Is that the same as 'flashing it'?
If not, what is flashing, and how do you do it??

Dude....install the A28 bios
U could use the Catalyst 3.9 drivers. Download them from ATI and then use the Catalyst Modding tool on them. do a google search to find it online.
Regarding installing the hardware.....look around and check out the download sections.
M9000 will work with the XGA screens, provided u've got the A28 bios.

Yeah thats the tool !!
Do the bios upgrade first.
Then install the new M9000.
