emtehfd, u said that u flashed your 5100 "with 5150  bios and a patch from edonkey". I was wondering what that patch was and what does it do? Would I also need that patch if i wanted to flash my 5100 with the 5150 bios? also, where did u get your memory? thanks

Ok another good testimony here for the R9000 64mb.  It works fine.  The only thing I noticed when running Benchmark is the 640x screen looks more "pixelish" than before.  You can see these sort of digital patterns that seemed softer on the 7500.  The test ran great.. got a 6800 at 1024..  without any overclocking.. btw, does anyone have a clear idea of what the best OC rates are?  I'm not looking to burn anything out for a few extra fps, but i figure a little improvement wont hurt..

I'm disappointed with the performance of 2003 3d benchmark..  seemed to struggle the whole time for a score of 1050...  is this just me or has anyone else noticed the same struggling performance?   I tried messing with overclocking and it started jacking up..  so i've gone back to the defaults

ok... in the txt file for the a28 bios it says the following:

Systems: Dell Inspiron 5100/1100 Series Version: A28 Build Date: 1/16/2004 ATI Radeon 7500 Video BIOS version is 8.005.000.007 Intel Video BIOS version 2980 Isues Fixed: 1. Support new NEC USB Floppy. The BIOS release has been validated on the following operating systems: 1. Microsoft Windows XP =================================================================== =================== End of A28 Release Notes =====================

pretty much all of the previous versions say the same thing under the "bios version is" part. my question is.... when i go into the display properties/ati control panel and find the little thing under options where it says what bios the card is running under and stuff.. mine says the following:

008.000.008.005
Date: 2003/05/13

WILL THIS MAKE ANY DIFFERANCE?

I just updated to A28...  shortly after the card arrived and worked fine.  Just replace the old with the new.  computer will detect new hardware and ask for the drivers.  Its pretty much how you would handle any other hardware.  uninstall the old software then install the ati drivers mentioned ealier.  Its really not too deep

Hi, im new here and just need your help to clear out a couple things?

1 . Has the GeForce 4 64MB Card for 8100 8200 worked with the i5100? (i always have my bios flashed to the latest or do i  need to flash to latest 5150 bios?)

2. Is the 64 MB ATI 9000 the same for i8200 AND i5150???? or are they diferent sizes? is this the one proven to work already with i5100?

thanks for any help provided...

just download the latest drivers from ATI.. catalyst drivers..  that download will include everything you need in it..   just replace the card..  boot up..   uninstall the 7500 ati stuff and then install the new drivers

I just want to check all this out before I dump the cash on the M9 (cuz I'm poor).  From what I've read, the latest i5100 bios will allow the M9 to run... but I'm still unclear about the "best" way to get the drivers for it.  Since the i5150's M9 drivers don't work, what would you guys recommend?  And does anybody have the price on the screen upgrade?  Also, has anyone else had problems with it or with games... I remember reading a couple pages back that someone's vid card bit the dust and bit it hard and I don't want to ungrade if other people are having problems with it.

P4 2.4Ghz (XGA screen)

640 mb ram

32 gb hard drive

16 mb M7

Forgot to ask this earlier, but does anyone know how the 7500/64mb compares with the 9000/64mb or 128mb?

Thanks Absynth.  Did anyone have trouble updating the bios?  I tried to update to A28 from the original Pheonix bios, but I was given a notice stating "Running on an unsupported system" and I can't continue the update.  Will I need to flash it during a reboot?  I tried it with older versions too and got the same error message.

Never mind about the bios stuff, I got it worked out.

Hello!

Just wanted to thank you (redfirelord, uwguy, etc...) and all others for your enthusiasm with regards to this project...I have just ordered my M9000 and can't wait to see the results...I would not have done this if you guys had not risked your systems for the betterment of all. Now I shall do the same to my 5100, but with less risk thanks to you. By the way, I have the exact same system you do, so I know it will work.

Did anyone notice a performance drop when updating to the latests bios?  It take a good couple of minutes for my computer to boot now, whereas it was pretty quick with the pheonix a04 bios.

I have noticed a big improvement after updating to the to the latest bios cause i went straight from the A4 to the A26 to the A28 and i noticed the system running much cooler.

Also for all u linux people In Suse 9.0 the ACPI (battery moniter, laptop features) will work if u update ur bios.

I just ordered the M9000 64mg video card for my I5100.  I'm another guy that wants to thank all who participated in getting this to work.  I hope you all can get future video cards to work also.  The fact of the matter is if the video card will fit in our laptops then Dell can create the Bios and drivers to get it to work.  Its just a matter of will they?  Now that we know these M9000 cards work in the I5100 is there some way to let dell know so they start supporting it?  Its a shame that I have to lie to the parts department and tell them I have a I5150 so they send me the video card.
