Hmm.... I would have to say that you might need some more ram. (j/k), I was able to install the catalyst drivers without modifying them. I don't know if it will make any difference though.

Do the 5150 drivers work on the 5100s? Just curious....

mebbe the DDR 333's showing that its not really compatible with the 5100's motherboard. Also not to forget that you've got the 5150's bios running on the 5100 !!! ... ?? now isnt THAT asking for too much...

Of all the people i've heard of...yr the only guy who has scrwed around with a LAPTOP so much !! ...

I got the ones for the regular desktop ATI 9000 Radeon. Except I don't use the installer. I unzip the files and rename the .dl_ or what ever files to .dll and then go to the device manager, click on 'update driver' in the video card thingy, and then I select 'Don't Search, I will choose the driver', and then browse to the catalyst driver, and pick one of the cards that are Radeon 9000 or something like that. (I'm using XP home, I don't know if that will make a difference, also, I did that a long time ago, so I'm not sure if that procedure is entirely acurate. If you want, I can try and see though.)

I wasnt liking the nvidia card so i switched to the m9 and im having some probs. I have the modded catalyst drivers and keep getting message    SMARTSAVE(tm) has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics driver .  I also have to uninstall and reinstall drivers a lot. Any suggestions?

I tried reinstalling and changing name after unzipping   same result. I'm not sure if control panel is updated and cant find it anywhere. How do I find out and how do I upgrade?

If I remember right, if you look at the files after they are unzipped, the control panel has it's own installer, and should install just fine.

Ok i'm a tad bit spooked about overclocking..   but i'd love to push a little extra power out of this thing..   When I go to Clock Rate.. it reads:

Core: 238.5   Memory 289.25      So what are some safe numbers that are higher than this?  I know I moved them around once and found that any 3d game would lock up and so on...   so what are some exact/safe numbers I could try?

more info on overclocking will be really apreciated, not only in the v.c. but the processor itself plz.

btw i managed to run the radeon 7500 32 mb at 312 core speed with a lil program called ati_tool

http://atitool.ocfaq.com/ which i think i pretty neat... check it out

I've been playing Halo a lot on my desktop and I'm just curious how it plays with the M9 before I buy it.  I know it probably won't play as good since I have a 9800 Pro.

Alright I've tried everything suggested and still cant get anything more than basic drivers. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also Jared if possible could you please go into a little more detail on how you did that or anyone else tell me how they got drivers to work properly.

Thanks

jonathanmujica,

Yeah I played it on my 32MB 7500, and thought it played alright.  But I'm just curious if the 9000 64MB plays it any better with the settings on high.

I have a 3.06 ghz 5150 with the m9. It runs alright, but crashes a lot for a microsoft game. I've seen the best performance at 800x600, I think with regular detail levels. You need to get a patch for the game and that helps with the crashing, (blue screens of death), but it doesn't eliminate it. It's a fun game, but it's slow for the kind of computer it is running on and the graphics quality IMHO isn't as good as games like UT2003. The thing I liked about it was that it had vehicles you could drive around.
