Are you trying to connect the desktop thru the laptop using ICS? If so, just go straight to the router. If you are then your router may have an uplink port that disables the port next to it or you may have a bad cable.
I am connected straight to the router and as mention Internet is working fine . I checked all other proporties to connect o TCP IP and it seems to be ok . Reason why afterwards i PING the new computer . Ping to his own adress and to his own computer name give time out .
I will nevertheless make some cable changes .
Any advice why pinging own IP adress is not working ? My first computer ( 8300 ) is seeing the new one in the workgroup since installation .
How many firewalls are running other than Windows? If you have something like Norton or McAfee running in addition to Windows firewall, you will need to shut down all but one of them.
There's the problem, two firewalls. Either run the Norton or ZA, not both. Both machines will have be in what they call they "trusted zone" in order to see one another.
Is Norton firewall still running? If so, you must place the new machine inside the safe zone and alos create a user account on the new machine that matches one on the old machine. Has File & Print Sharing been enabled on the new machine?
Thanks for your support . Over protecting by Firewalls caused problems between 2 computers . I made already some major progresses. Greatings and best wishes from Belgium . Daniel

What type (brand) of router is this?

Check in Services to see if Workstation has been disabled . . that will keep the pc from seeing others on the network.
