Inspiron 5100 - Crashes all the time with no warning.

Question

HI there. I have (as you see) an Inspiron 5100, and over the last few days it's begun to just switch itself off on me whenever it feels like. Initially it was after a long period of use; everything would look just peachy and then...voila! the PC would be off. No 'would you like to shut down' or 'system will restart'...nothing. Just turns itself off, like an empty-battery notebook would if you unplugged it from the mains. Of late it's started doing it even more frequently; over the last hour or so it's crashed 4 times. I'm actually wondering if I'll be able to get this message through without it crashing again. And, wonder of wonders; I can't back up everything I have and reformat my hard drive because my CD-writer (which was replaced under international warranty since the original one was faulty) is once again being a pain and refuses to burn CD's efficiently or even burn them at all. I run virus and spyware checks regularly, and my computer is clean as a whistle. I'm really clueless...what's the problem and what can I do to remedy it? Sorry for the long post!

Thanks a lot. I checked out most of the links related to my problem, and basically blew into the main vents. It hasn't solved anything, though, so I'm definitely going to take it in for repairs (since the CD-RW drive is messed up anyway) before my warranty runs out. definitely contact dell before your warranty runs out and send it in.  use every bit of that warranty up before it's gone.  because once it's gone, it's gone for good (unless you're lucky enough to be within a 30-day window)
