The M9 is soooooo much better, trust me, you can't even go back to a M7 after playing with the M9. You can play it on your lap but for the hundreth time, read what I said to avoid overheating.
first off, if my fan burns out....then i will buy a new one, which is cheaper....a new motherboard, video card,processor.......or....a new fan. and yes i do know about upgrading the 5100 with the 9000. this is my 4th upgrade to this notebook, just on video cards. secondly...i used to build desktops when 386 w/ intel 33mhz was the stuff.....and still doing it today. i dont know how old you are but i can pretty much guess that im older then you by a large margin. all i have been telling poeple is what is facts that i have found with this platform. please dont take offense to my way of informing you all,i dont mean to offend....but if you need info or are curious (sorry bad spelling) about the upgrade,i have done it and my suggestion is to use that program to help those who would like to help keep thier system cool during their gaming. unless you or Dell can make a more pratical means of keeping the system cool i suggest you either help with infomation on this subject or dont replay with dumb inmuture statements like your last one. bsskng
hey guys....chill !! no name calling here !!!! ......
bsskng..... thanx for the info, have been using i8kfanGUI, and *only* for gaming. Found it pretty useful. If my fan does give way, i'll get another one.. but i dont think that would be for a long time...and besides im not too fond of overclocking a laptop, aint worth it....it would be a better decision to just go ahead and get a new processor..
Anyways, for your information... my first comp was an XT with a humungous 640 KB of ram !!! and a gigantic 20MB hard drive . Loved that comp.. and yeah also had the 386SX-33mhz with 40Mb hdd.
u said this was your 4th upgrade.... from what ?? did yr previous video cards die on you ??
i stared with 7500 16mb, to 7500 32mb, then 7500 64mb, then to and finally 9000 64mb.
ya...i remember when 1mb video was king.....playing moon lander, asteroids at the arcades....ya i'm old too,but with age comes insanity!.....lol. i hope your fan does'nt burn up also but i know what conciqencies come with modding your computer...$$$. just ask my wife...lol take it easy.... bsskng
well.... i've got the M9000, installed it, and it sure is good...a lil better than the M7500.... i guess i was expecting too much....
got about 1034 on 3D Mark '03 and around 6900 in '01, which i belive is good.
It does run a lil hot tho.....and Americas Army was kinda laggin after playing for a while...still was getting 25+ fps in very high quality mode.... dont know about the lag tho....mebbe a clean install would do the trick....
when i first starting playing Americas Army I had the radeon 7500-16mb and reached 52 honour and that was with 256DDR,it looked horrible and lagged some times really badly especially after just joining a server, I had every-thing on Ultra low and turned every-thing off to get better FPS.Then i got the 64mb-7500 and i could turn the special effects on and was running on normal and it looked really nice, but it would still lag some-times,no where as bad as it use to lag but every now and then, like when 3 or 4 enemy was on the screen plus some team-mates it would b a little jerky. Then i put in another 256DDR and now its really smooth, ive kept it on normal with all the special effects on and its great, aslong as the ping is below 250 i can have a really good game. And now the EU servers r running its better still. So im thinking i might wait a whille b4 upgrading to the M9000,u never know DELL might come out with some thing better still
I played AA before...but the lag was never like this...actually, at hospital with all the settings turned ultra-low, things used to be playable.... now its pretty different... even with the settings on normal..it still lags..but not as much.
mebbe a complete OS re-install ?? i dunno...it even could be a bad video card...What say the group ??
What kinda tests should i run to make sure ?? so far i've only played Americas Army, and things werent as good as i expected.... mebbe i should test it out with some other games... ???
Hey all. I just want to say thanks. I paid 40 bucks and spent HOURS trying to get Deus Ex 2 to run, and it wouldnt. Then I found out that it requires a video card with vertex shaders.... So, alone and forelorn, and of course gameless, I HAPPENED to find this forum thread through a Google search. Let me just say, its people like you all who make computing fun. THANK YOU for all of the research and hard work, and then the collection and sharing of this information with the rest of us!
I ordered my Mobility 9000 64mb yesterday, and it should be here on the 5th or 6th. I updated my bios to A29 today, and Ive got the driver sitting on my hard drive waiting to go. Should be no sweat.
Iv been having some overheating issues. I was playing MOH spearhead and it lagged pretty bad, not horribly but pretty bad. after exiting the game, i found that the cpu was operating at 138F. This is after i removed the heatsink, lapped it, and used better quality thermal grease. Just so you know, i used the auto configure option in moh. Inspiron 5100, 2.4ghz, 512mb ram, xga
Does anyone have the 7500 64mb card they would want to part with? I'm on a budget right now and cant afford the 9000 new right now, but I'd like to have a better card than my current 7500 32mb card. Please let me know. Thanks.
you pay for shipping and i'll also send you 2- 256 mb ddr chips w/ the 64mb 7500 for free!
yes....i said "FREE"! why?...you might ask....well for one i really dont need the the parts and no one will buy the parts from me at computer stores or shops.....secondly...i like to help out fellow 5100 user...becuase were all cool and everyone on these post has help me so much that it the least i could do......so give me a e-mail and we'll talk.
yep,i got it. i sent you my address. i may just send it to you myself using the usps. let me know the details from ups or fed-ex. i do have a 7500 32mb if anybody wants it.
I haven't received anything back yet, let me know if for some reason the email was undeliverable, someone off Ebay had that problem the other day, which is pretty random...never happened to me before.
