it was, but to come out with a bios update that soon from computer release is really silly

I have successfuly updated my BIOS from A00 to A01. I flashed it last week. I used the Windows version flash file. What I did before upgrade is I re-formatted/re-partition harddrive and install XP Pro with Service Pack 2 (original was XP Home).  I also fully charged my battery and have AC power connected all time.  Then, I execute the A01 Bios upgrade inside Windows.  After flashed, I reboot my system.  Everything works fine.  I hope this can help you guys out.

Odd, I did much the same as you but ended up with a different result. I repartitioned and formatted my hard drive, installed XP Pro with SP2, had a fully charged battery and AC power connected the entire time, and ended up with a doorstop. Like in the other cases mentioned, I received a message indicating a successful BIOS update when it had actually failed. This is rather disheartening.

SXT:  What happens when you try to restart the system?  Do some lights just come on and that is it?  Do you hear the fan spinning?

Correct. I've already sent it in for repair. I had to go through over an hour of assembly and disassembly with a tech support guy before I could convince him it was really dead though.

Hmm.  Obviously, we can't do much with this.  Just curious.  So, you hit the power button, no lights come on, but you can hear the fan running.  In order to power off the system do you have to hold down the power button for greater than 4 seconds?

None of the lights light up actually. The fan is working though.

Same here.  Told "Betty" exactly what the problem was (BIOS update) and she had me take out the memory and hard drive to re-seat them, as well as holding the power button down for 40 seconds with the battery and ac adapter removed.  When was a re-seating problem ever and issue with a BIOS update?  I suggested that perhaps I should pat my head and rub my belly at the same time while powering it up to see if that would solve the problem.  Finally she transfered me to a supervisor who set me up with a system exchange.

Lesson learned:

Before calling, remove memory, hard drive and battery so you don't have to go through it with "Betty" on the phone...
