Hi guys I recently upgrade my i5100 to the 64mb ATI 9000
now Ive upgrade bios acordingly and have done all the normal upgrade to prepare
I stuck card in and it wouldnt work, faulty card I hear you say........
well I sent it back and they sent me the replacement (2nd) card banged that one in and the same problem
am I unlucky enough for this to happen twice and get faulty card r is there something Im not doing right?
Downloaded Omega Drivers,
Uninstalled the 7500 drivers and s.w from control panel
uninstalled hardware from hardware config
shutdown
physically take 7500 out and insert 9000
turn on laptop and hey.......nothing,bit of a light up
but just as soon disapears, dont even see the bios boot screen
It sounds like either your BIOS did not take well, your 2nd ATI card was also faulty, or there is some other hardware problem now. I wish you luck and can only think of installing the ATI 7500 drive back in and use your warrenty to get it fixed.
One thing to make sure of when doing laptop upgrades is to securely ground yourself before working on the innards. I cannot tell you how many techs I have seen fry this or that by not grounding themselves properly. Enough of that on to troubleshooting here, let me just rehash a few things just to make sure they were done:
Uninstalled and used driver clean to remove any and all ATI and/or nVidia drivers from your system.
Downloaded updated drivers (preferably the Omega drivers) and had them on your hard drive ready to go.
Downloaded and installed the A29 i5100 BIOS.
Powered down the system, disconnected the power source and removed the battery.
Went through all proper procedures for uninstalling/reinstalling a video card on the i5100 (including replacing all cable connectors and/or screws.
Powered on and waited 30 seconds for BIOS to recognize new video card.
Let me know if you have gone through this, I have already transplanted 7 i5100's with ATI 9000's and have not had one bad one (knock on wood). While I don't find it uncommon for things to be shipped defective from factory, I do find it uncommon for you to have that much bad luck that you would get TWO bad cards.
while im glad youve finally managed to find a company we can get the card from, it's bad to hear they dont work.
when i put mine in a followed a similar procedure but i didnt remove the old drivers, just let windows detect them automatically. it worked brilliantly straight after switching, alebit a little warm.
either way, a day later it fudged and although it loaded the desktop fine games were messed up. massive blurs. sent it back now but i may try one from upgrade uk and let you know how it goes.
upgrades.co.uk and dimensiontechnology.co.uk are two places although I think one is middle man and one is supplier!
Thanks for help guys! Earthed myself and did everything I think im just one of these unlucky people! Sending 2nd card back on monday if I have no joy ill just get refund, guy in upgrades were pretty cool bout things and apolagised! if u come up with an other idea please share
Computer works better with bios a29 and took to it like took to water btw
I would like to know if anyone from the U.K. has actually got this card working and has no problems with it, reading all the threads, it sounds like only people from the U.K. are the only ones having problems with it at the moment, i hope its just faulty cards, but alas is there any difference at all between the U.K/USA machines? the u.k machines were built in ireland from what i know, and im wondering if the factories there have changed anything at all in the laptop system which might be causing problems with the m9000,
Well im ordering my card from upgrade.co.uk , im hoping i can get this card to work :/
by the way i noticed there is a new BIOS A30 version, has anyone flashed to this and having no problems with it?
Hey thanx for letting us know bout the BIOS update, would do the upgrade as soon as possible. tho i'm still wondering what it would upgrade if it saw the M9000 instead of the M7500.... no video bios update mebbe ??
Can anyone tell me what the best/stable drivers to use for the m9000 are, im currently running the latest omega drivers but im not too happy with the performance, if you could also post your current benchmark in 3dmark'01 that would be great.
got my uk supplier dimensiontechonology.co.uk to supply me with the m9000 64mb, so if anyone in the uk is intersted
upgrade.co.uk
dimensiontechnology.co.uk
both offer this card, installed it today and works, used the latest omega drivers, but only got a 5005 score in 3d bench '01.
