I bought this thing used and now I regret buying it. 1600x1200 makes everything too small and makes me strain my eyes. I changed the font size and icon size and it just looks messed up.  I thought that there might be a display panel driver available to get a decent screen at 1024x768.

Change your dpi to 120 and see if that helps.

The i8200 was offered with at least 2 screens. A SXGA+ 1400x1050 and the one you have in 2 flavors. You would need a new screen with the SXGA+ resolution.

You probably should not have chosen an UXGA display. Anything below the native resolution is going to be less than optimal - try increasing the size of the fonts on the screen, rather than lowering the resolution.

At this time I have put it up for sale on a trading forum. The display on this thing is unbearable to me. I could see running 1600x1200 on a 21" display but not on a 15" display. Unfortunately the seller failed to tell me about the display.  I'll mess with the settings but I don't think it will help much. The way it is now, it shows a web page with everything on the left half of the screen and the right half is just the background color of the page.

There are thing's you can do to make your screen better. In your internet explorer change your text to largest then right click on your desktop then click properties then apearence tab change font size to large then click advanced tab. Here you can set active and inactive tittle bar, palette tittle, menue, tool tip, icons size and text ect.I found that setting the text to bold an all text helps just play with the settings to where you are comfortable with them it does make a big improvement you can also change the dpi which i kept mine at 96 but you can change that also and read the first post by rollie with jageres or blurry images only in internet explorer. I have changed the regestry key value and it has improved in my case.Hope this helps  GOOD LUCK

Also i ran across a post on one of the forums it wasn't in the video forum i can't remember which one when i was researching and trying to improve my display.Sombody posted a link to a download with some cool tools one of which it clears up and improves your text on your display it was a simple tool to use it would give you a series of of text images and you just select which one is the best display. I will try to find it again and post it i need it again anyway because i had to reinstall windows.

I think you have that backwards. You forgot to inquire about the display.

Or is it always the sellers fault for any problems.

I don't have the same display as you but this might give you a idea of what i done. I am running 1280x800 at 96 dpi and i made the following changes.

1.Changed the regestry value  from 1 to 0

2. Changed text size in internet explore under view to largest and under tools then internet options then advanced tab removed check from enable automatic image resizeing.

3. Then made the changes in the font size switched to large then adjusted all the appearence settings through advanced tab as i describe above .

And this drasticly improved my display. Before theese changes i was very unpleased with my display and it would strain my eyes.I like my display now.

Don't blame the seller - many people are very happy with UXGA or WUXGA displays. I've had an Inspiron 5000 of my own for 4.5 years with one, and have a work D800 witha WUXGA display. I would not trade either for a lower-resolution screen - others disagree.

Higher resolution is not always better when it comes to LCDs - it's a matter of personal preference though.

I would have to agree with you 1600x1200 on a 15" screen is way too small for most people.

I myself Like 1024x768 on 15" screens.

I have a 19" Samsung LCD and 1280x1024 is small enough for me.

Hi,

Just thought that it might be an idea to clarify a few suggestions already made, regarding the dpi setting which I think will make a big diference to the readablity of this screen.

If you go to Display Properties (from Control Panel or right click on desktop and click properties) then go to the "settings" tab and click "advanced" .

This opens a new applet. Click on the General tab and change the dpi setting to 120 (or more) and see if this makes the text more readable. You may have to experiment with this setting to get the desired text size.

I would keep the resolution at the native resolution of 1600 x 1200 as anything else will be blurred (except maybe 800 x 600 would be sharp). I think that you should have a great screen with a resolution like that it should be really detailed and fantastic for photos. I agree that text will be hard to read at a dpi of 96 though.

"Clear type text" option under "display properties" (as above) then on "appearance tab" then click "effects" can give the text a smoother look.

Hope this helps

Terry
