Agreed, even despite the leakage I have in the top corners of my screen this is an excellent display. I'm hoping that the replacement will be an A01 and that it will resolve this issue, but even if it didn't I think I'd be fine just keeping this one.

Just wanted to chime in here. Ordered a 2005FPW about a week ago, got it today. Rev A01. Works absolutely flawlessly. No dead pixels, no ghosting, no backlight issues. Just a tiny bit of purplish light leakage on totally black screens, but nothing that I haven't seen on other high quality LCDs.

Totally satisfied. This monitor ROCKS.

ajabbari -

I have seen panels that look much better than mine so I hope to get a better one that what I've got. I don't believe the problem I'm seeing is a 'characteristic of the panel' as I've seen panels that don't exhibit the condition.

dynamic_dns, I'm not saying it's right but this seems to happen a lot at Dell. I think their shipping system is just set up strangely. If it hasn't shipped by your ship date then I'd complain, but right now it seems that the majority of 2005FPWs are still waiting to go out.

Can you give me an order number or something that shows when you ordered and when you got it?  This stinks, I ordered mine 12/29/04, and its 1/12/05 and still nothing, still in preproduction.  If they shipped one out that was ordered after mine I'm going to have to yank someones chain over at dell.  If you have an order number or something I can use to prove to them that I would appeciate it.  Even if you want to PM me with it.
Thanks,
Sam

Yes, get this..  Just spent 30 mins on the phone with them and gave them 2 order numbers.  One ordered 1/3 and one ordered 1/4.  The one ordered last was shipped first, on the 7th.  The one ordered 1/3 is still sitting in preproduction, maybe stuck in the mud.  The lady on the phone who was a manager and knew more than most tells me (in a round about way) that depending on where you live is where they ship from... we'll, if they don't have stock on the west coast they won't ship to you from the east coast, visa vesa.  So, the order that shipped was all on the easy coast, where they had stock, and mine is backordered on parts on the west coast.  I told that lady to cut the bull-krwap and send me my monitor from illinois, she said 'the dell policies and procedures dont allow for that.'

Dell, if you are listening, and can comprehend, why don't hire someone who can do their job well?  There is not 1 - NOT 1 - person who I've ever come in contact with that says Dell delivered to their expectations... doesn't that make you mad?  Do something about it then.

Order cancelled.  I'll go buy a sony or apple monitor.

Just think for one moment now, and take a deep breath..........When you finally get the monitor , you may have to go thru the light leakage merry go round problems, like many others are now facing, and you will have to send the darn thing back.  Going thru this again and again....Very best luck to you

I should probably be glad it hasn't shipped yet... maybe i'll get a good one.

There was a 30% off coupon plus the $75 'were sorry' coupon so I think I might order another and see if it gets here before my first.

Yeah I think you may be right about the whole regionalized shipping thing. I'm in California, I have one 2005FPW on order (placed on 1-5-05) which is scheduled to ship 1-14-05. I'm almost expecting to get one of those emails too now. I also have a replacement coming my way for an existing 2005FPW which I called in for on Monday. It's now Thursday morning and though they acknowledge the request it apparently hasn't even been processed yet as there is no order number generated for it (I've tried contacting them a few times about this and what I keep hearing is that it will take them days just to process the replacement request, until then I won't have an order number for it). From my experience the replacement process is typically a bit faster than this. Basically from where I sit it seems as though when it comes to California and the 2005FPW the gears at Dell aren't moving too quickly.

I probably won't mind if the "new" 2005FPWs don't have the issues the old ones did, but it will be all the more annoying if they do.

I have a rev A01 manf. Jan '05, and also notice the purplish area around the corners.. moreso the bottom left and right area. I only notice it from certain angels.. so I guess it isn't that bad, but you see it.

Yes, it is purplish at angles. Not a big deal to me. Normally that would just be some other color on another LCD. LCDs don't have perfect viewing angles and probably never will. Wait till OLED monitors come out. :)

OLED is going to be great, but going to take some trials and errors. As of right now it's life span is less than plasma, but looks so much better in clarity, detail, colors, etc.

FYI, a Dell representative actually called me and told me that the leakage is a known issue and that my replacement monitor may have the problem as well. They didn't say when they expected the problem to be fully resolved (I could not ask because they lefrt me a voice mail message).
