they definitely knows because they took 2005fpw off the site. They're not available to purchase anymore. Lucky i got 2001FP instead and very happy since I got it yesterday.
It's still there, just no longer a "featured product" possibly because it is now listed as having a 1 - 2 week lead time before it ships, looks like they've been getting a lot of orders.... or a lot of returns.
Good luck to you, hopefully you'll get a working one. I think I'm going to return mine and wait till the 8ms LCD's which should be popping up within the next few months if all goes well. For now after this wonderful experience.. back to CRT for me.
Hey guys, I read on one of the forums a quick fix for some users and believe it or not.. it worked for me. I'm not sure how long this will last, but we will see.
Take a soft cloth (I used a sock) and rub it around your screen. Press along the corners and just go back and forth across the screen, around the corners, up and down, etc. This evens out the backlight and leaking. I still notice it a little, but it is now more uniform. I also dropped my brightness down to 85%.
Hopefully this will help. I may just keep the monitor after all. :)
Sure, if you pound down on it. How do you suppose you clean your LCD then? You kind of have to press on it.. Besides, when you have 'stuck pixels' you're suppose to 'massage' them.. hence pressing on your screen.
How are you supposed to clean it? Buffing it lightly. Basically I have some screen polish I use, it's just a spray with some clothes. Except instead of applying pressure, I just rub the cloth over the surface very quickly, for about 3-5 mins straight. Takes a while, but it restores it to factory appearance. Slight pressure might be needed to get off some spots, but that's about it. Of course make sure your monitor is OFF when doing all this, and room temperature.
I also have the back lite promblems everyone has but I also have a problem which seems worse! I have a ATI 9800 Pro connected to the 2005FPW via the DVI connection. The contrast (which can Not be adjusted in DVI mode) is Very Bright! I have the brightness control set to "0" and it is still too bright! The only way I can control contrast, brightness and gama is via the ATI 9800 Pro! I can adjust the controls to my likeness! When I play a game eg. Doom3 or Call Of Duty or Battlefield 1042 the screen gets brighter again which I have to set the brightness options in the game to dim it and when I quit the game and go back to the DeskTop the screen is bright and I have to set the ATI 9800 Pro and set it!
The posts, Windows splash and Welcome screens are very bright when booting up, then DeskTop is ok because the ATI 9800 Pro seting take over!
Now this does not happen with my Dell 1900FP 19" LCD monitor, it works perfectly! Does anyone have the Contrast problems? I think it has something to do with the backlite problems plaging many!
Does the refurbished one work better than the original? Because if so, consider yourself lucky.
Anyway, although this thread is no longer about the problems I mentioned at the beginning, it's gotten to its fifth page, and I'm a little upset that nobody from Dell thought it deserved a response. I've decided to keep the monitor in the hopes that Dell finds a solution before my warranty runs out and that I can get it fixed or replaced then, but at the moment, my confidence in Dell is about as low as it can get.
Which is sad, because just a few years ago, I called Dell for help with a new system that wouldn't even boot, but got someone on the phone that talked me through opening the case and solving the problem. I was actually impressed.
I guess I shouldn't expect that kind of support from Dell anymore. Thanks again to the guys who did help.
I should be getting my first of the 2 today ... in about 20 mins hopefully (fedex). I will post a review once received. I am hoping to see a Jan revision - if not, I am going to be disappointed since Dell told me the delay was because they were 'building' it.
