Jacob,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

You should never install drivers that come up in Windows update.  All of the Dell tested drivers will be found on our website.  You need to uninstall those drivers and install the Dell drivers.

Hello Rollie,

Thanks for the fast response.

This driver was install because it  came up as a critical update and our default policy  is to install all critical patches and hotfixes.

I thought it was strange that a video driver came up as a critical update though.

I'll rollback to the earlier driver and see if that solves the problem.

I still have the question of how did a Dell video driver get into the critical update list of Microsoft Update ?

i just installed the sp2 and the critical updates to my 5150 and now I am having all kinds of problems.  How do I get the driver to load?  I tried from diagnostics disk, no luck.  I also have a yellow at the same 852/855 controller.  HELP!

oops, forgot to mention, the display driver is what I am talking about not working either, I cannot get the nVidia GeForce FX 5200 to work, it is recognized, it was copied from the diag disk, but will not load.  I get errors, see message posted about this error

FYI, I quickly went to the Dell site and got the latest Dell driver, which was package R86306E. Same thing, no dual screen mode. I'll do an actual rollback of the driver tomorrow and post my result.

This Microsoft critical patch from WindowsUpdate tried to install on every one of the X300's we've setup so far, so i doubt it's just us. Can Dell get Microsoft to pull this update notice off of WindowsUpdate ?

Jacob,

I cannot tell you why the driver ended up as a critical update, but it probably came from Intel directly.
