Need help with 1905FP Monitor set up

I just bought a 1905FP LCD based on positive reviews from CNET.  The problem is that the image looks horrible.  It sort of looks like I am looking through a screen door at the screen.  Lots of faint vertical lines in the picture.  I am hoping this is a setup issue.   I am using an IBM T40 laptop that has an ATI Mobility 7500 graphics chip.  The graphics driver recognizes the monitor as the 1905FP.  The graphics driver supports up to 75 hz and 12x10 resolution.  I have tried both 60 Hz and 75 Hz, and both 12x10 and 10x7.  Looks about the same in terms of screen quality.   On the included CD, it said if you have a non-dell laptop, download the latest graphics drivers fromn the vendor.  I tried that and no improvement.    I saw on several other posts that it was usggested to load the driver from the 1905 CD.  Can I do this with my T40 / ATI 7500?  How do I do this.   Thanks.

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

You can use your system to install the driver from the cd. Here are some things to try and resolve the issue with the faint lines.

Perform monitor reset
Push Auto Adjust button
Adjust Phase and Clock controls via OSD
Perform monitor self-test feature check and determine if these lines are also in self-test mode
Check for bent or broken pins
