Could not figure out how to post a new question so I thought I'd try this box.

How do I find the sleep/wake button? I know where the power on/off is.
So where is the sleep/wake button? Too bad the on-line manual supplied
with the notebook is not more complete. reese2

Was wondering if you might be able to tell me exactly which adapter pa-9 and etc. goes with each laptop or where I might be able to find that information listed on Dell's site. When I go and look at the power adapters and Tech Specs it does not say anything about them being pa-9, pa-12 or etc. Is there a way of determining that information without it being listed specifically?

I have an Inspiron 1150. It's working fine & I've changed nothing. Awhile ago I didn't notice my connector pulled out & I had left for a few minutes. When I returned, the (low battery sign was on screen). I checked & it was at 1%. I quickly hooked it back & after awhile it fully charged, but, now the green battery light flashed one green, then four Orange. I check the meters & it is fully charged. It stops blinking when I take it off electric. I've turned it off, left it off for more than an hour, electric off, soon as I turn it on with electric it begains flashing again.

Hi,

With regard to the FAQ-page wil title "What AC adapter goes with which system?":

  • Does this page mean that if the wattage is right, then any Dell adaptor will do and that the adaptor plug will fit the notebook?
  • And what do you do if it's just the plug of your old adaptor that's broken? I'm reluctant to ask Dell to repair a plug...

Thanks :smileyvery-happy:

None of these FAQ's even closely match the issues reported on the forum.

My understanding is this:  the power channel on the motherboard has gone bad.  The entire motherboard will have to be replaced to repair the laptop.   I've heard it's cheaper to buy a new laptop these days - then have your software cloned from your old laptop by any expert.  I have this problem, too.  I have an Inspiron 4000.  I thinking of buying a new battery for it to see if I can squeeze a few more years out of it.  Do y'all think it's worth trying?

Hi, how are you?, hopefully fine. I have a Dell Inspiron 1100 and I can't get it to start! The lights on the front of the laptop that indicates weather the computer is on will blank on and go directly off. What would be the problem??

Randal, sorry so late to reply just saw your post. I had the same flashing light sequence on my Insipron 5100 about 8 months ago. Basically I was told it means one of two things: battery overheating or something in the battery is dying. I was told at the time that the battery could be dying even though all diagnostics showed OK. Since my battery was two years old I went ahead and replaced it and that fixed the problem.

How old is your battery? Apparently they are expected to give good service for about one year and anything you get more than that is considered good luck. And the battery life is specifically excluded under the Dell warranty.

I have had this light sequence a few scattered times with my new battery, and each time my heart sank, but I just pulled out the battery and let it sit to cool, and when I re-installed it later the status light was fine so I chalked it up to over-heating.

So, try the uninstall-reinstall thing a few times, and if that doesn't fix it then you probably need to replace.

I have an Inspiron 2200. It was switching back and forth from battery to power so I kept giggling the chord and now it is dead! I tried taking out the battery and just plugging in the adapter but nothing happens. The light on the adapter is green but the computer is completely dead!

Can you help me? My mom thinks this is my fault. Is it?

I have come to find out that it is not your adapter but the computer where the adapter plugs in.It is a simple job of a little soldering, so don't let anyone rip you off. It is a common problem with laptops as they are moved around more frequently and the connection point gets broken. The reason your computer is dead is because your battery is dead.My computer is getting to the point where I can't "giggle" it to the right spot to have it run on ac power, which is probably what happened to yours.

Good luck,

Sharon
