Colorado,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
If you still have system warranty you should contact Tech Support to get service.
If you don't have warranty, or you simply want to try and fix it yourself, use the system docs to see how to tighten the LCD hinge and screws.
Display assembly and latch.

I tried tightening the screws in all parts of the screen and hinges.  They wouldn't tighten anymore and the screen remains weak.  What should I do?

Colorado,

In that case you may want to try and replace the LCD hinges.
You should be able to purchase the kit from Dell Spare Parts.
Dell Spare Parts Phone# 800-372-3355 Ext:6-9937
Part#.........Description:
8M669.........LCD Top Cover 14.1 (includes latch and hinges).

Since you have a D600, and it is by default less than 1 year old, I assume it must be under warranty.

Although I have not had any problems with the screen on my D600, I did have the exact same problem you describe on my old Inspiron 8000.  It was annoying, but I ignored it since the computer still worked fine.  Problem is, eventually the cable to the screen got tweaked from the constant movement in the hinges, and I started having really strange green artifacts on the screen that came and went depending on the position of the screen.

Dell replaced it under warranty - not just the hinges and cable, but the whole screen.  According to the repair technician, the replacement screen (an IBM) was much better than the original sceen (I think he said it was a Samsung), but its really hard to tell.  No more floppy screen (it was replaced about a year ago, my son now uses it, and he is a lot harder on it than I ever was).

In any case, get it fixed...it will only get worse if you don't.
