When I use the buttons to attempt a scan, 'Scan into MS Word,' nothing happens and the display returns to '1 copy, 100%, normal quality.' The 'Dell AIO Printer A940' icon appears fine in the tray. I can still scan using the All-in-one-center, but, this problem totally negates the use of the control panel. I don't want to have to educate each person who uses the computer of the 'special' way to scan. There are no driver updates available.... ? Windows XP Home SP2

Have you tried updating the firmware? Here a link to the donwload:

Not sure if this will fix your problem or not but you never know.
