1) I did not have an electrical adapter that would fit any female connector in my new 1901FP monitor. (The electrical adapter which came with my old monitor did not fit into the new monitor.)
2) Dell support said they would send me an electrical adapter for the new monitor.
3) As I now look closely at the new monitor, I have come to the conclusion that it does not require any electrical adapter since on the back is a female connector labeled "AC Power" and on the label on the back of the new monitor is a sticker saying "Input rating 100-240V"
4) I'm asking you whether the conclusion I've reached in #3 above is correct. (Since someone from Dell Support is sending me an electrical adapter for this monitor and now YOU tell me to use an electrical adapter for this monitor, I don't want to go ahead and plug it in directly to AC current without someone from Dell telling me that I'm correct in thinking that no electrical adapter is necessary.
There is NO adapter for the 1901FP. I even crawled behind my desk to be sure. Plug one end into the monitor and the other into your electrical outlet or surge protector.
You're welcome! I know how frustrating these things can be- trying to get a simple answer to a simple question. Post back and let us know how you like the 1901FP.
I hooked up the 1901FP as Rob directed and it is working fine. I especially like the fact that I can so easily adjust the height and viewing angle. (Whether it will solve my original intermittent problem of a blank monitor with the computer running remains to be seen. See my previous post on this subject.)
I have found the font appearance with the new monitor to be very annoying since my eyes aren't the greatest. I succeeded in changing the size of the font associated with my desktop icons but the fonts all through the net are too small and too thin for my liking. Any ideas on how I can get back to my larger, thicker (bolder) fonts?
Right click Desktop>Properties>Advanced>General Tab. Change the dpi setting to Large Size. This will increase the text size by 20% to 120%. It will make text reading a lot easier. I had to do it on my 1900FP.
Thanks Marvin. Did as you directed and now many fonts are very large and bold but others remain very small and very thin. I can't seem to figure what characterizes each kind. It makes for a funny looking screen with parts of the same web site written in small and thin font and parts very big and thick.
You are right, Pogomom....some of the fonts are not affected by the change in settings. It takes some getting used to. Under display properties/appearance/effects, clear the first box (Use the following transition effect....) and select the second box (Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts) and select 'ClearType'.
Also, you can tweak things a bit further (make the 'thin' fonts a little thicker) by using the ClearType Tuner:
I hope Robs suggestions work, because I have no idea why it is that way. My Fonts are normal except bigger. I hope it works out. You can take a look at an example of mine here
Thanks for the tip on clear type. That has helped my font issue. I like the 1901FP but at 1280 x 1024 some of the fonts were too thin and hard to read. Clear type helps that issue.
Another cool trick is to press 'Ctrl' and move the wheel on your mouse to change some of the text on web pages, but you will notice that IE text settings do not affect all text, such as the text in this message.

Pogomom,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
If you have an electrical adapter that will fit the monitor then, you can connect it to the monitor.

Jesse, We are talking at cross purposes!

Jesse,
I've now gone to the Dell web site and looked up the specifications on the Dell UltraSharp 1901FP Flat Panel Monitor.
Under "Power" it says "90-264 VAC / 50-60Hz +/- 3 Hz / 2 A (Max)"
I conclude from this that I can plug it in directly to house current without an electrical adapter. Do you concur?

Bless you Rob!
One sentence from you was more help than I got from Dell in many minutes of phone "support" and the message from Jesse.
Thanks for crawling down to look.

Just ignore the jibberish, it was a post for something else.
P.S. On my screen the Fonts are also crystal clear not blurry like in the post.
