The D800 always has a seperate graphics card...the "non upgradeable GPU" is the official policy though ;)

So then "technically he could upgrade it to a fx 5650?

Which would be the easiest without modding it??  The Fx Go5650???

I wonder why Dell's textbook response is that you cannot upgrade a standalone video card??

All the GPUs I mentioned install the same way, no difference in ease; 10 minutes max to swap GPUs.

I thought you hade to mod the ATI 9600 due to heat?

I really appreciate where you guys are going with this conversation.  So it sounds like I can upgrade the video card on a 1 year old D800.  Is it soldered on or is this something I could do myself?

6 screws & 1 plug in connector to swap video cards.

Wonderful!!  So the physical size/envelope is the same with these higher memory cards?  Meaning, any one of them will fit?  What about the heat issue that the other person mentioned.  Should I only upgrade to a specific(s) one due to heat issues that could damage the laptop?  Would I need to mod the graphics card to solve a heat problem?
