Plastic parts from Dell are actually really cheap.  You could buy the parts you want to change and get them painted then do the changeout.  I too, think the grey/blue notebooks are lame.

I agree totally, the blue/grey is after it's time. I was honestly looking for a totally different desjgned case (Shape) But that's a good idea. Oh Forum Moderators, tell me so, where do I get these and how much? I am looking for the whole shell for the Inspiron 1150

Ha! Good luck going to Dell for anything! I just spent an hour of frustration on the phone with reps that barely speak english trying to order some hinge mounts for my old 7000. After about a half hour of extreme frustration and boiling over to the point of holding the phone out in front of me, yelling DO YOU UNDERSTAND ENGLISH?!!!, I asked for a supervisor. There was no supervisor! I finally spoke with someone who I thought spoke english and I thought could understand me when I attimently clarified that I did not want the pins -I wanted the mounts that mount the pins to the base! Would you like to know what they sent me? BINGO!, the PINS! Yes I'm venting! Your best bet may be to go on ebay and look for a poorly configured 1150 for cheep -kinda like a parts car. It seems as though I may have to do the same for some hinge mounts (unless I can get some through this forum) I am now in the market for a new laptop for my work and you can be assured it's not going to be a Dell. I tried going online to dell.com/recycle; I found links for "parts" and thought "O yah, great!" and would you know all I found were accessories. I want to know who the idiot is that thinks that when I follow links for my specific laptop, under "parts", that means I want to look at monitors!

O yah, before this happened I was looking at the new Dells. Your right, they all look like dung. I think I'll buy an Acer. Good luck!

Use the Dell Spare Parts number below in my sig and call and get the parts you need.  Have a list of the parts first and it will help while on the phone.  If you get someone who cannot or won't find the part numbers for you to order, say thanks and hang up and dial again.  You will play "Dell Roulette" until you get someone willing to help and sell you the parts.  If you approach them with the attitude of the two of you working towards a solution, you'll get more cooperation.

I know it doesn't sound it after reading my last entry, but as a general rule I am very patient and diplomatic with people -rarely have I been so discusted that I couldn't wait to get off the phone before I started ranting. I have already tried the number and extention. I simply don't have an hour to spend going through the ongoing recordings and hold times. I used to be really impressed with Dell, but they have really gone down hill (in customer service and product asthetics). They probably out-grew good customer service. Any company can set up a web site.

I finally got around to calling the spare parts; and after speaking to a lady who did not know what the part was (The plastic shell that holds the parts in), I was transferred to sales where I requested ti be sent back. I was. After an hour on hold, I got a gentleman who found the parts, gave me the numbers and sent me BACK (again) to sales, whereas I played phone-ping pong. I called x66966 (Customer [dis]Service) and was sent back to parts where I got a knowledgeable dell employee (rare but they do exsist) who told me the price.... If you want a joke, go to the bottom of this post.

$375 for the whole shell!!! Is dell nuts????? FOR PLASTIC???? KEEP IT! I'll deal with it as it is. I may just make one out of wood (Oak maybe). Any modders looking for a score, let me know. I NEED A NEW STYLE FOR THIS NOTEBOOK AND I CANNOT WAIT

You probably got the number for the bottom case with the moterboard - the plastic bottom runs about $15 or more, and the top with the touchpad a bit over $20 - prices are my estimates based on previous knowledge and not Dell quotes.  BUt that is the ballpark we are talking about.

Nope, that was for the Complete plastics kit, lid and screen bezel and all, no components. But Now I'm being told $175.
