Well, in your other post you sais that your i9100 was pretty new, so it may have the latest BIOS on it, but just to make sure, check on the downloads page on support.dell.com if there is a newer BIOS available. If you have already the newest BIOS, you may try an earlier version.
80°C is definately too hot for a P4 CPU. It can cool this fast down when the CPU fan is on and the CPU not fully loaded.
On most Dell Noetbooks, pressing Fn+Z (on a US Keyboard) will cause the BIOS to reread the temps and set the fans according to these temperatures. Give it a try when it is overheating.
You can also check the cooling system like this: Start your PC, run the Windows Calculator, set it in Scientific Mode, enter a large number (e.g. 99999999999999999) and hit n! . Your CPU will be at full load. Keep an eye on the CPU temperature. (As you have a HT CPU, you can also start 2 instances of the Calculator, this should definately load the CPU at 100%.)

thanks for the trick...
so far, running in normal, nonsleep mode, i can run at 100% cpu load for an hour or more with no overheating...
but again, in sleep mode, for some reason, i open up and the thing is just cooking...
really, i guess its no big deal..i just keep it on when it's on and off when it's off...
anyone gets this though?
