Burn a CD using the UDF packet writing format (Roxio DirectCD, Nero InDC, and others) and then try to read it without UDP packet reading software running in the background. Works for me every time. I end up having to use the pin-hole release mechanism or re-booting.
hahaha, Ed that was funny...I'm actually interested in the same thing..I don't have any kids, but I tend to accidently open the cd-rom all the time..I have friends that do it too...Not a good design..If anyone has other ideas please post!!!
One thing I tried that is a pain is to pry off the bezel. It comes off very easily. Makes it a lot harder to hit the button because its not sticking out so easily. My left leg has bumped the button to open the cd rom more than my kids have now that I think of it. I almost wish it could be opened with a latch similar to the laptop lid.

Is this the only PC in the house???? If not then tell your children to stay away from your notebook. I don't see what is so hard about that.
This is called disciplining your children.
