Wireless A B G Speed router question

I have Dell wireless 1490 wireless card on dell inspiron 1720. I wanna buy wireless router. I saw a trendnet model with 802.11 g standard. It says that has a speed up to 108 mbits. Can i use this wireless card and get that speed with this router or i need a card that supports this speed ?

You right about the internet. I have a 2 mbit connection :)). I usually share big files with my brother and that's why i thought it would be nice to have that speed, but its not that important. I can wait a half an hour more when sharing. :)) Thx

You can use that router, but your wireless adapter you will only be able to get 54 Mbps.   To get 108 Mbps, you would need a wireless adapter from the same manufacturer as the router that supports the non-standard 108 Mbps.

You should ask yourself why you would want higher speed than the standard 54 Mbps supported by 802.11g.   It is highly doubtful that your internet service provider gives you a speed higher than about 20 Mbps.   Having a faster wireless network would not give you any higher speed than your Internet Service Provider gives you.  Than only advantage to having a 108 Mbps wireless network is if you are frequently transferring large files between computers on your local wireless network.  Again, it would make internet browsing any faster.  Most manufacturers of these higher speed wireless devices don't tell you these facts - they just blindly let you spend the extra money.
