Adding new HDD and making it the system drive.
Hello,
I just ordered a Dimension 8400. I bought it from Costco so I wasn't able to customize it to my likeing. It comes with a 320Gb RAID drive. I would like to make that drive a video storage drive (it’s a video editing computer) and get a 80GB drive for the system disk. Is there any trick to doing this with the RAID drive… I would have no problem installing the new drive but I wouldn’t know how to handle the RAID thing… or to make installing windows on the new drive and setting the raid to secondary drive. I can probably figure this out… but just wanted to see if there were any tips to help me get started. I would assume i would just inal windows and select the new drive to instal it on instead of the raid dirve? Also, will this void my warranty or anything?

Your best bet: start over with the system. Remove the RAID configuration, and set the two drives up independently of each other. Then install what you want as the boot drive and reinstall everything.
MAKE SURE you prepare your XP CD before you alter the as-shipped configuration, as it will not come with an XP install CD.

I would actually like to keep the RAID configuration... but as a second hard drive and not the system drive. I will purchase a seperate drive to use as the system drive... But how do i tell the recovery disk stuff to install on the new drive and not the raid... so i basically want this new drive i put in to be the C: drive.
