Sonic 7.3 does not recognize Philips DVD8701.

I have a Dell XPSGen5.
My DVD burner, Philips DVD8631 stopped operating and was replaced by Dell yesterday.
The replacement was a DVD8701.
The new equipment was recognized by Windows XP and played back an audio CD
without any problem.
I was also able to burn a data CD using the XP program.
However when I tried to use Sonic 7.3 to burn a DVD the problems started.
The progam opens with the notification 'NO RECORDER' in the top box.
It also says 'Click to check for other drives'.
However clicking has no effect whatsoever.
I remember that while talking to Dell Support I was asked to delete
an entry 'Lower Filter' using Regedit; I don't know whether that is relevant!
Any help would be appreciated.

Niels.
