Blue screen error message "Application WinServ cannot be found. Reinstalling might fix the problem."

I used my ISP's security manager to search and remove spyware.  When I rebooted my system to complete the process of removing the spyware, I got the blue screen with the message something like, "Application WinServ cannot be found. Reinstalling might fix the problem."  I tried reinstalling Windows XP with the reinstall disk, but that doesn't work.  Nothing works, it's like stuck there.  HELP????

lynbolt,

"WinServ" is not a component of XP. In fact, it's spyware, according to this TrendMicro article. It sounds like the spyware removal software from your ISP did not remove the problem completely.

Will the machine start in "Safe Mode"? If so, you may be able to remove the spyware by following the manual removal directions in the TrendMicro article.

You receive a "Stop: c0000135" and "winsrv was not found" error message after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2

JIMW:  Thanks for the information.  When I reboot the system, it looks like it's loading windows xp like normal but then ends at that blue screen and won't do anything after that.  Is there a way to get it to start in "Safe Mode", some key to hit while it's rebooting or something?

JIMW:  Thank you.  I will try it when I get home tonight and let you know how I did.  I really appreciate your help.

lynbolt,

Yes, it's the "F8" key. Here's an article from Symantec explaining it. See the section entitled "To use the F8 method".
