I lost my document in Notepad

Question

I typed a very lengthy document into notepad (I was planning to cut and paste it into a messageforum). And I saved the document to my desktop. A few minutes later I go back to it only to notice that it's turned into an MS DOS Application!!! I don't understand what happened, and all of that typing I did is now lost. PLEASE HELP! :(

Whatever file type extension it has that makes it look like what you call a 'DOS application' (there is no DOS in Vista), it should still be a plain text file. Have you tried opening it in Notepad? That should work.
