Tight Boxes

Regardless how I tweak the resolution/dpi settings on
my new Inspiron 6000 (XP Home) and regardless how easy
on the eyes I can make the main screens, nothing works
with the dialog boxes. They stay too small to read

I had the same problem with my Inspiron 6000 that has a gorgeous 1920x1200 resolution that I don't want to change. Lowering the resolution will increase everything's size. Here's how I solved it: go to Display Properties, Appearance, change the Font setting to Large or Extra Large. Then go to Settings tab, Advanced, change the DPI from Normal 90 to 120. Then go to Appearance, Effects, select "Use the following to smooth...."and turn on Clear Type and if you want larger icons, select it there--I didn't like the huge icons. There are other screen settings that depend on which graphics you have. Look for an icon for your graphics on the lower right that controls more settings. Try those settings out and tweak them back and forth and see which ones work for you.

MARY G: Thanks, it worked. Setting settings easier now.
Someone told me, though, to kick myself for not learning
    the Settings Transfer Wizard first.
