Please Stop sending Automated notifications

@DELL-Chris M

Why are we getting these Notifications.

If some one PMs us the message will be completely ignored due to all this spamming.

These messages are supposed to be sent only to OP

Any ways to stop these ??

Thanks for the prompt response.

OK will turn it off

You do a have point here regarding PM between External Users.

But the functionality is there and can be handled by Community Devs too. So only Dell employees can send or receive PM.

thanks for the update.

Thanks, we are looking into this. For the time being, can you turn it off for now? Private Messaging can be useful, but the majority of your troubleshooting conversation should be in public which assist all.

Not sure where you saw that functionality on the front end?

We are aware and working to correct this ...Why not simply turn PM off in your settings?

Hi DELL-Chris M:

Glad to hear that Dell is trying to fix this. It's incredibly annoying to be bombarded by these private messages from DELL-Cares asking me to provide a Service Tag or update Dell customer support regarding the original poster's service ticket every time I post a reply in a forum thread. These PMs are clearly intended for the original poster but seem to be CC:'d to me (and likely everyone else who has participated in the thread), even if I've only posted a helpful hint or possible solution and don't require assistance.

Disabling all private messages isn't the ideal solution. For example, I have received a few PMs from members of the Dell SupportAssist Escalation team in recent months asking me to collect and submit diagnostic logs to help them debug known problems with SupportAssist, even though they are aware that my service warranty has expired. I don't want to disable all PMs in my user profile at My Settings | Preferences | Private Messenger when some messages from Dell employees are sent to me for a legitimate reason.

I came to this thread to post the exact same thing.

Every time I post a singlemessage on the Dell forums, I get a private message asking for my service code. Why does this happen? I can't just add a message to a forum post without this Dell-Cares bothering me about please give me your Service Tag?

Imagine being on a forum about cars and every time you reply to a posted picture with "Hey, that's a great looking Corvette", the forum sends you a private message asking for your VIN, your Model Year, and your Mileage. At some point it's like, nah, no thanks, I'll just go to a different car forum that doesn't nag me and then email me telling me I'm being nagged.

And then a day later they send you another message saying, "Hey, we never got that VIN, Model Year, or Mileage! Can you send it?"

And then a week after that, you get a another private message asking you to take a survey "based on your experience." Give me a break here. I don't even bother putting all 0's in the survey anymore because it clearly makes no difference.

It's stupid and I've been reporting them as Inappropriate Content to the moderators every single time. It's been happening for months. Now that I've posted this, I expect to get yet another message asking for my service tag.

* If you need warranty support services, the bot must ask for the Service Tag. The bot does not check past cases for the Service Tag because you may have multiple PC or peripherals with multiple Service Tags. Only Rockstars are exempt from this because we know that they are replying to other users with troubleshooting.

* Correct. See 1st reply above.

Hi DELL-Chris M:

Could the bot be revised so that it only sends a PM to the original poster asking for their Service Tag, and only when they first create their topic?

If other users posting in the thread have the same problem and want private support they always have the option of creating their own topic (i.e. instead of piggybacking on to someone else's thread) or submitting a service request online at https://www.dell.com/support/incidents-online/en-us/ContactUs/Dynamic. That link to Customer Support is already featured prominently on every page of this community.

The current auto-notification system is incredibly annoying and intrusive for people who aren't Dell Rockstars.  I suspect it will eventually start driving some users who might still have a helpful suggestion (and aren't overly concerned with earning badges and special privileges) to leave the community.

...And to no one's surprise, I just received two more auto-notifications in my Outlook inbox - one with the entire text of my post <above> informing me that a new reply had been posted in this thread (thanks, but I don't need to be told the thread has been updated if it's my reply), and a second nagging me to send a PM with my "service label/express service code/order number".

Hi DELL-Chris-M:

Even worse, I was just sent another PM asking me if my service tag is 8*****2. That is not my service tag, so I'm guessing they just sent me the private service tag of someone else posting in this thread.

I'm wondering now how many times my own private service tag has been sent out to other users in this forum without my knowledge.

If I need warranty support services, I'll open a ticket with Dell. Not every reply to every post offering a smidge of conversation is a drop everything and oh NO MY COMPUTER IS BROKEN PLEASE HELP ME!

Your bot is broken and disruptive to the Dell Community experience. It makes me not want to contribute because I know it'll nag me for information it doesn't need, then it'll nag me again a couple days later, then it'll have the to nag me for a survey about my experience a few days after that. It'll also email my primary email address for every one of these nags.

Take a look at this screenshot. I've got 5 more pages of these, all from the Dell Cares bot, and none of them useful to me.

And you guessed it, here's the Bot again, moments after posting this reply, asking me for a service tag when all I'm doing is replying to this thread, which has nothing to do with a computer.

Agreed, the current model is disruptive to non-Rockstar users who are trying to assist other users. My advice for you is to go into your Forum Settings --> Preferences:

* Turn Private Messenger and Private Messenger email notifications off. Leave it off until you need help from DELL-Cares with your specific in warranty Dell devices
