Remote control session

I have vWorrkspace v7.2 on 3, 2008 R2 x64 servers. 2 are terminal servers the other is the Management console server\connection broker.

I can shadow a session from my vWorkspace Management console but once I hit my ctrl and tab key to exit the session it dumps my connection to the vWorkspace Management console server with the error

"Because of Protocol error this session will be disconnected."

Hello David,

At the current time the Remote Control Session feature is not supported from a Windows 2008 system, the client and virtual desktop must be either Windows XP or 2003. This solution from our knowledge base provides further details https://support.quest.com/Search/SolutionDetailDraft.aspx?id=SOL69604&category=Solutions&R=draft_tcm_11-209266&SKB=1

With that said if you are seeing the message about a protocol error you may want to try turning off the Graphics Acceleration option on the connection.

As David Young mentions this is not supported, however as you have experienced it can work. Are you using Aero on the hosted desktop or managment console server?, you may find the error message is caused by the use of Aero.

I updated the RDP client I was using and that fixed the problem.

Hello David,

The reason that I believe you were experiencing this error was because your Admin workstation was running version 6.0.6001.18000 of MSTSCAX.dll. I have seen this issue occur when either the Client or the Admin Workstation has version 6.0.6001.18000 of MSTSCAX.dll installed.

To verify the version you have installed on a 32 bit workstation, this file can be found in C:\Windows\system32\mstscax.dll, and on a 64-bit workstation the file can be located in the C:\Windows\SysWOW64\mstscax.dll.

I recommend using MSTSCAX.dll version 6.0.6001.22564 or later. To update this file, download and install the latest version of Microsoft’s RDP Client.
