Complaint
Considering that there is no proper area for me to file a complaint I'll do it here. That way everyone will know how much I hate Dell right now.
In January 2011 I purchased an Inspiron M5010 Dell laptop for approximately 480 US Dollars. For about six months, I was happy with my purchase and used my computer for school, work, and entertainment. About six months later I started having troubles with the computer. It would be slow to startup. The computer would turn on, but the screen would be black for 30 seconds-2 minutes before booting up. Concerned, I took my computer to a friend who is going to school for computer programming. He reformatted the drive and for about 3-4 months, my computer was working again. However, the problem started up again. This time it would take 1-5 minutes to start up. Calling Dell support didn’t help—they said they couldn’t help me because I didn’t have a hardware warranty, only a software warranty. Once again, I took it to my friend to see if I could do anything. He couldn’t. I didn’t have the money to get a hardware warranty, so I continued to use the laptop with my friend checking up on it every so often to see what he could do. In March 2012, the computer died. Every time I started it up, the screen would be blank and then would beep 5-7 times. The CPU had failed. Not wanting to give up on my laptop, especially with the new semester coming up, I took it to several computer repair shops in my city. They all told me basically the same thing: The CPU had failed, it would be expensive to replace it, and I might as well just buy a new laptop instead of investing in the one I had.
This letter is to tell you how disappointed and frustrated I am with this product. I’m told that the CPU is one of the things that should never fail in a laptop and it has. I spent my money on this product expecting it to last longer than six months to a year. I’m a college student and I’m struggling to keep up with my homework because I do not have a laptop to work on while waiting in between classes or when babysitting. Dell customer service was slow and unhelpful and the person I spoke to kept insisting that I give him $100 so he could help me. Needless to say, I will no longer be buying Laptops from you and I’ll be sure to tell my friends and family not to either. This product is a real disappointment.
