I don't have an answer to your problem, but I was wondering if you could help me out. I have the exact same card/screen, and so could you post the entire XF86 config file so I can use it for my computer? I'm having a really hard time getting X to work (and yes, I downloaded and installed the new drivers) but I must be picking the wrong options or something because it refuses to work for me. So a detailed explanation on how you got that original config file (mine looks nothing like that after running fglrxconfig) and then just posting it would be incredibly helpful to me. A 1920x1200 resolution is all I want, just as long as it's something.

have you tried doing an 'X -configure' to generate a basic config file? You shouldn't have to specify modelines or dot clocks or other stuff anymore - this should all be auto-detected now.

If it still doesn't work, post you XF86Config and /var/log/XFree86.0.log files to the xfree86 mailing list. Look at www.xfree86.org for details...

I tried X -configure but it fails. There is no interesting information in the XFree86.0.log file.
For the modelines, X doesn't seem to be able to detect them automaticaly (the problem seems to come from the screen). So I have to specify the modeline for the 1920x1200 mode to have a proper image (otherwise the image is not center on the screen).

I'm gonna give a look at the XFree86 mailing list.

Note that only two resolutions work: 1920x1200 and 1600x1200. I tried a lot of modelines for the screen and they don't work. So I guess the problem comes from the ATI driver.

I'm still having trouble getting anything. It's complaining about not being able to load the flgrx module. Which reading the installation instructions it sounds like all I have to do is run the RPM and it'll install everything I need for me. Any idea what's wrong?

Well, it's hard to tell since you don't give any information.
You need to install the kernel source before installing the ATI driver. Then install the ATI driver rpm and run fglrxconfig to configure your card. Restart X.
If it doesn't work, post your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 and /var/log/XFree86.0.log files to see what happens.

I have been trying to install Mandrake 9.2, when I download the driver from ATI it gives me errors about conflicts with already installed drivers.  I had selected the ATI fglrx driver during mandrake setup, could this be causing the problem.
