Clock losing time fast

Question

My onscreen clock was losing about a minute every couple of days. In the past 2 days it has lost 5 minutes. I getting very worried.

If you have CleanSweep, it is a super ulitily, but it does slow down your clock. I downloaded 'AtomicClock' using freeware @ http://www.thinkman.com/~thinkman Then select 'Dimension 4' for information and download. You may select one of dozens of time standard sites. I use ncar's supercomputer in Bolder CO. These types of atomic clocks reset your clock to one-one hundreds of a second (0.01 sec.) You can also select the time reset interval. I use 1 hour. My compter is on 7/24 with cable (Road Runner). This site will connect on any connection; 24.8, 56.6, DSL T-1 etc. I this helps. PapaBear

One sign that your CMOS battery is losing power is when your clock starts losing time. Normally these batteries last from two to five years. However, battery life is subject to many varied conditions and no one can accurately predict when a battery will fail. Page 2-18 of Dell Dimension XPS Rxxx Systems Reference and Troubleshooting Guide gives easy to follow directions should it become necessary to replace your system battery. Be sure you have copied down all your system setup information in the CMOS before you change out the battery. Sometimes the info gets lost and you may have to restore your settings. HTH
