Firewire problems with Precision 470 workstation & xp64

Hello,

I posted this on the workstation forum with no luck, I hope to have better luck in this forum, here it goes:

I have Dell Precision 470 workstation and have installed windows xp 64 and haven't found any way the system to detect its firewire port.

Theres no support on Dell's website for the workstation anymore or for win xp 64 (only for Vista 64). The hardware device manager does not detect the firewire port by any means.

Have tried Dell Client Configuration Utility in which you can set many values for the hardware: we set Onboard1394 tab to 4=Enable (at first is set to 2=Unsupported), we create the package and execute the .exe and then the XML info files promts an error:

Dont know what that errorcode means. (probably that is unsopported).

We also have tried some external utilities for scanning the system and checking for all the drivers needed in the system and found several drivers for firewire in 64 but none work.

Tired of trying for so long, we decided to install and external firewire card made from Adaptec for Dell (E-G900-04-0123(B)/ Agere L-FW323-06), thinking windows would detect the hardware card as usual, but nothing happens...windows does not detect a new card is installed (buy the way the card port is working because we put a network card and windows detected that something was new in the system).

Is hard to believe there's no way to have firewire working on this machine with windows xp 64.

Please can anyone give us a helping hand to solve this problem (being able to use the onboard firewire port or at least the new firewire card) once and for all????

Thanks in advance.
