Hey Bkanka my name is Hunter and it is very nice to meet you. I personally have the Nvidia GTS 250 by EVGA. Althought the card overheated i have just got the replacement from the company and it works great. It is a great that card that can almost handle anything. It ranks right below the Nvidia GTX 260, but right above the 9800GTX; however, it has alot less power consumption that both. It is a great card to get. I need some information from you they are as follows
* What computer do you have? What operating system? How much memory do you want in your graphics card? What do you do with you computer?
Please answer those questions for me and i can give u a deffinative answer to your question.
I would like to now formally welcome you to the dell community. Add me too your friends. Back to the point i would never recommend a power supply upgrade ever. This is it voids your hardware warrenty, so if something breaks or overheats (because power supplies overheat systems) Dell would not replace any of the parts. I just thought i would warn you. I found the cards as follows
Both cards would be compatible with your 300 watt power supply and both are capable of probably playing cod 3,4,5 and playing fallout 3. fallout 3 it will probably have the most trouble playing, but it will still be able to play it on high. The thing is if the card doesnt work it doesnt matter where you buy it DELL or Newegg if you dont like it you can send it back within 21 days. So a great deal. Plus it is only $130 (IDK if you live in USA), but that is the price in dollars. Again add me to your friends.
i wouldn't get mad at someone trying to help me lol. I am going to upgrade my PSU before upgrading my GPU. The psu that i am going to get is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182030 which has 2 6-pin pci connectors.
Just from looking at your basic specs you have a very good computer that will last your for a long time. I have some bad news for you though so dont get mad at me the all GTS 250 have a minimum power supply requirement of 450 watts; however your Inspirion 546 has a 300 watt power, so if you would put the card in it would tramaticaly put a huge stain on the power supply and it may cause a system failure. :( please inform me if you have done a power supply upgrade. Also look into your computer if you can and see if you have a 6-pin PCI express power pin. This is needed to run the card. I am so very sorry, but i am not down i will continue to look into the best card for you system.
