Well...you are correct in saying the 6000 is a piece of junk.  The integrated graphics is useless.  The 2 gig mobile processor does haul arsh.  A general rule of thumb is to multiply the mobile processor by 1.6 to get your equivalent P4 speed --> 1.6 x 1.6 = 3.2GHz.  The mobile processors also use less heat and require less energy.  Go with a PM.

Thats not true. The 1.6 is roughly equivalent to a 2.4 not a 3.2.

The rule of thumb is to multiply the processor speed (1.6) x 1.5 which = 2.4 GHZ

You gotta practice your math, 1.6 x 1.6 = 2.56 GHZ not 3.2

1.6 + 1.6 = 3.2

See the difference?

The deal I have been offered on the 8600 is with the wxga monitor.  If I select a different screen the price will go up quite significantly.  Is the wxga suitable?

Absolutely, do not get anything less though.
